Have speaken to the OR now and got a date for my interview - he seems like a reasonably nice person, hopefully they won't be too harsh on me!

Spoke to RBS just now about my debts with them... They were less than understanding. Gave them my BR number and the guy just retorted that the debt is still my responsibility and that they would continue to pursue me for payment!

I told him to take me to court. Obviously the OR hasn't been in touch with them yet.

Obviously dont have a clue about the ins & outs of bankruptcy and the fact that even talking to you about the debt is now against the law!

If they call again give em hell! :D

I couldn't believe how snotty the guy on the phone was really! A world away from the chap at Lloyds TSB. He wanted me to pay the £800 ish that is currently defaulted with them immediately, or they would take immediate legal action.

That's when I told him that he was going to get not a penny from me and he could either contact the OR or take me to court. Anything that comes through from them is going straight to the OR's office anyway...

OK - bit worried now. Went into the Co-Operative Bank in Coventry to open an account a week ago, was expecting to have heard from them by now... So I rang them up to check on my application and apparently i've been declined! :(:(

Now i'm feeling quite worried about what i'm going to do about a bank account if I also get declined by Barclays... Obviously my salary needs an account to go into (though I still have a couple of weeks before that happens), so i'm a bit stuck at the moment!

Last time I checked my experian credit report, there was no fraud indicators or anything bad flagging up, so i'm puzzled as to why i've been declined. I thought that they were bankrupt friendly? The lady on the phone said that her system said that i'd been declined and there is nothing more that they can tell me.

Of course I can write to them for an explanation, but I fear that they will just send me one of their standard "unfortunately you don't meet our credit rating criteria" letters in return...

    Anyone got any thoughts?

  • a barclays account takes a while (up dote 4 weeks ) to set up so I advicse you to do it now or use a trusted persons account in the meantime.

I was declined by co-op and I'm still waiting for my Barclays account. (in 2nd week now) I will wait till Fri before giving my employer my mums account detail as that is the cut off date to change salary bank details.

    Good luck

Bit of a late update, but an update on my situation nonetheless... And it's good news!

Item 1 - Telephone interview with OR went really well! It wasn't anywhere near as scary as I had imagined it being. I was thinking that they would be going through all of my finances with a fine-tooth comb, but it was quite general. She asked about how I had spent all of the money from my loans/overdrafts, if I thought I had lived beyond my means, how much money had been spent on gambling and when it was spent etc.

She came across to me as very understanding, didn't make me feel bad for having lost a lot of money on gambling etc. As an added bonus, she said that she would be sending out a letter to confirm that I am allowed to keep my car and my computer :j Result!

Item 2: Bank account. More good news! Spoke to Barclays today and I have been approved for a basic account with them. The connect card is in the post and should be with me in the next 5 days apparently. I've been given my account details, but I am going to hold back on updating my work with new Payroll information until i've got it in writing!

All in all, a good couple of days! One question that I do have for someone is regarding a credit card account that I still have open. I have a Vanquis account with a £250 limit. I have never used the card, and in fact I cut it up only a few weeks after receiving it.

Now, my question is, am I obliged to tell the OR of this account, even though I have never used it? Do I need to ring Vanquis and tell them that I am bankrupt? I don't suppose that I have to tell Vanquis anything, as my understanding is that you only need to declare you are bankrupt when borrowing over £500, but I am guessing that the OR would like to know. I only remembered about that account this morning when I got a statement in the post (the first one i've had in months!)

Thanks for all of your help again, everyone! :)

  • Hi tOmm

Great to hear the car is ok & that Barclays account opened. The OR job is to ascertain & understand the reason for BR & not to be judgemental so I am pleased that yours went OK.

I think that it is likely the Vanquis account has frozen anyway as was in place at point of BR....whatever happens you must NOT use it & I would advise the OR that it was an oversight.

    Hi all,

Another update from me. I hadn't heard from the OR again until this morning. Opened the letter and it is a form requesting an IPA of £60 a month for 3 years. This is actually a lot lot less than I was expecting, so I am extremely pleased with this.

There has been no talk at all from the OR of a BRO/BRU, would they normally send notification of a BRO/BRU at the same time as the IPA letter?

I have been completely up-front and honest with them about everything, even going as far as to admit that my spending has been reckless on certain occasions, I would still expect to possibly get one, but I am hoping that once they receive my signed IPA form (being sent straight back today) they will just forget about me!

Thanks again all for your help! :)
