Objection!!!

Lots of people try, and fail, to be professional gamblers. I know!!
just trying to be helpful, I'll but out now :rolleyes:0 -
So is it like IPA versus IPO? I mean, are you encouraged to sign a BRU and, if you refuse and a judge doesn't see eye to eye with you, you then end up with a BRO? Apologies for hijacking in a self-interested fashion. My OR said they were not recommending a BRO for me, but I've since been passed to an Insolvency Practitioner and who knows whether they might use a BRO as a stick for beating me with?
Lily
ps Haven't gambled, but it could be argued I took out credit with no prospect of repaying it. I mean, I thought I had a prospect but they might disagree.
Hi, thats what I thought about it Lily - similar to IPA vs IPO.
and there is one debt I am worried that the OR might view as taking credit with no prospect of repayment. It was taken out before I went on maternity leave but didn't actually start until a couple of months after we had the baby because it was work on the house that got delayed about four months. so the credit agreement started later. It ended up I made only a few payments before cccs got involved. I too thought we had prospects to repay it but then it all went wrong. So the OR may not view this with favour.
guess will have to see what he/she says.

The countdown begins! B-Day is set for 1200 hours on 26th January 2009.
Only 12 days, 18 hours, 13 minutes to go! *Bites Nails*
As an aside to this, I get paid the day before... Would it be best to withdraw all of my salary from my account prior to going BR? Rent etc due to come out on the same day as I go BR - would hate to end up with all my money frozen!

Hi t0mm glad you got the date set, it will be here and over and done with before you know it.
I would definitely take all the money out of your account if you can! you may need to do it over a couple of days though or actually go into the bank and withdraw all that you can over the counter.
your rent going out the day you go BR will probably be fine so I wouldn't worry about that unless you would rather pay it in cash for this month.
Hope it all goes well for you!

Hi tOmm, re the gambling.....
I'm similar to you with about 30/40% of debt due to gambling. Here's my plan....
First of all you need a few CLEAN statements ie: with no gambling transactions on em, so you can tell the OR that you've stopped or that you've stopped gambling with CREDIT.
Then when the OR wants you to explain it, tell him you tried to do it as a BUISNESS to try and earn extra income, rather than let him think you are just a hopeless, degenerate gambler. If he thinks you are addicted he will probably give you a long BRO...to try and help YOU!!!
Just a few tactics for anyone worried about gambling debts
Good luck.....Slay
Slay, that's exactly what one member's OH did, and they still both got a BRU, made not difference what so ever. Gambling is gambling as far as the OR is concerned and if it lead to your indebtedness it won't make one iota of difference if you had the delusion that it was a 'business'Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Hello all! Back now, debt free! Was made bankrupt at 2:15pm. The process (as everyone else on here seems to say) was extremely smooth and stress free.
After entering the court and going through security at 12pm, I was shown through to a waiting area. About 15 minutes later, a lovely lady came through to go through my paperwork. We had a chat for about half an hour, discussed everything from jobs to her kids (!).
After that, I had to wait until 2pm for the judge to finish his lunch... On returning to the court, I was promptly shown though to the courtroom, which was effectively just an office with a couple of tables with microphones on and a bookcase. The judge was quick and efficient, asking my name, whether I had taken professional advice and what I thought to the online forms system.
The order was made at 2:15. Currently waiting for a phone call from the OR to book a proper appointment. Feels good to be debt free! Can't wait for Lloyds to call me again (like they have been every hour for the past 2 weeks) to tell them where to go!
Thanks for all your help, you've all been amazing

Loving the phone call I just had from Lloyds TSB:
Call Centre Guy: Hello, can I speak with Mr t0mm please?
Me: Yes, Speaking
Call Centre Guy: Hello, I am calling about your account with us number xxxxx. It currently has a default balance of £1575 and no payments on the account for two months, were you aware of this?
Me: Yes.
Call Centre Guy: When do you think you will be in a position to make a payment towards this account?
Me: Never.
Call Centre Guy: Umm..? Are you experiencing financial difficulties?
Me: No, i'm debt free now.
Call Centre Guy: ???????
Me: Was made bankrupt yesterday. Number is xxxxxxxxxx.
Actually the guy was very nice and said he would update his system with the notes so they won't be in touch with me again :j
Woohoo! That felt good!Made Bankrupt (debt free!) 26th January 2009 - 2:17pm
