  • Check your terms of employment section relating to probationary review and dismissal procedure. It may well be that they have breached their own procedure.

Did they state the reasons why you are deemed to have failed your probationery period? I dont know the law on this - but woulda thought they needed to do this - in writing.

That is incorrect. Reasons do not need to be given at this early stage of employment (there are exceptions, but not appear to apply here).

Reasons do not need to be given during the probationry period, and the reason they gave wasn't a very strong one.
I am going to appeal the reason, because they hadn't disgused this with me first. I am also going to appeal the procedure as they did breach their own policies in several areas. It might not get me my job back but it will protect people in the future.
I will keep you all updated with any progress I make
    Thanks for all your posts

  • This is just so typical of employers and the complete an utter disdain that they show towards employees. Had you left a job to take up this position?

Luckily I hadn't given up a job, but I put off going to college.
I'm now looking for work, and trying to cut back on any expenses. Unfortunately I have to give a month notice to the childcare.

    Hi guys,

I just thought I would give you an update. I have been to Citizen's Advice and they feel I have 3 good grounds for appeal.
I have just sent off my appeal letter, recorded delivery, and will let you know the outcome.

Thanks for all your support :T

Having ben through this withmy brother, I can say that it was well worth the process although we did have to push all the way. Good luck and we'll look on with interest. In the meantime, keep looking for a new position. There is work out there.
