new to 1899, I was charged a fortune
I joined the 1899 call providers 2 weeks ago. because I thought they provide cheap calls to mobils.
I dial the prfix number that they provide for mobiles 02081804804 and then the mobile number assuming that:
1. It will charge me 10p/min to any network weekdays
2. and it will charge me 3p/min to any network weekends
but since i am on t-mobile 750 tarrif that gives me 750 free minutes during weekend and offpeak.
so t-mobile charged me 40p/min for the 1899 prefix number (02081804804), in weekdays. and I was screwed £22.34 for the 1 hour and 9 minutes that i used the 1899 service, assuming that it is 10p weekdays.
Is there an override number for uk mobiles, that give me cheep calls to mobiles during weekdays?? please please let me know guys.

Its not 1899,s fault. It looks like you were calling the 020 access number from T-Mob at peak rate, which is charged at a whopping 40p a minute to a 01/02 number which is correct
see http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/Dispatcher?pf=Call+off-peak&nmid=pas_pp_plan_ews_paym_mixit_details&nmid2=ctl_pas_pp_details&ppid=84&menuid=ctl_pas_pp_change_plan
Its only cost effective to you if you use the 1899 service at E&W on your present tariff.PF.0 -
Charges by the mobile network for calling any access number like this will still depend on whether it comes from the contract's included minutes or not, and no call-through arrangement can prevent this, except freephone numbers on some old Orange contracts.
If you want to make quite a few peak-rate calls to other mobile networks, you could consider changing to a different T-mobile tariff (as long as it would not affect any cashback conditions you might have) or even get a 2nd phone.
sorry, another x-post0 -

If the poster used 1815 for a cross-network, mobile to mobile call during the daytime period, the charge would be 54p for the first minute and 50p per minute thereafter.
On your current TMobile contract it is only cost-effective for you to make cross-network calls during the evening and weekend periods using 1815. It is not cost effective, at anytime, to make calls to other TMobile users via 1815.0 -
The op was using 1899 not 18185 to dial a mobile, he doesnt say which network.Yes he would have paid 40p to call landline(T-Mob) , 10p to call mobile(1899) , 3p connection (1899) 53p in the first minute,and 50p thereafter(40p T-Mob,10p 1899) .
An excellent point made by Steve_xxx its not worth you calling T-Mobile numbers on your present tariff using 1899 offpeak ,only other networks.PF.0 -
I'm afraid that this is a 'bolting the stable door' situation, but if you are forced to call mobiles at peak times using this connection then consider using one of the 0871 prefix dial-through numbers. T-mobile will charge you only 10p per minute for the privilege, no matter the time of day. Telediscount on 0871 999 75 75 has been one of the original and long-term providers in this area.0

Could also use 0808 access via 1915 for crossnetwork, landline and TMobile to TMobile calls during the daytime period. Calls would cost 20p per minute to other mobiles and 11p per minute to UK landlines, plus 3p per connection charge.
This does not apply to TMobile Pay As You Go tariffing.0 -
The other question is to go back and look why you are on the Tarrif you are on with T-mobile.
Surely an anytime package would be better value for money, and when you can at times get packages that are completely free via cashback (free phone and free linerental) that would save you your charges.
The disadvantage is you have to pay upfront and then claim the cashback, but mobileshop have some good deals on o2, and you could get all those mobile to mobile minutes for free.
Off peak deals tend to be worse than pay as you go for peak rates, so the other answer would be to spend £16.99 at play and get yourself a Nokia 1100 and a virgin sim, and get 0.15p rates to landlines (5p after first five minutes).0 -
If he took the Virgin Route he could also phone India for 15p a minute using an 0871 number.0
