If you know what medals someone was given, can you find out what they were given for? I mean, the indivual act the soldier did to be rewarded? Or were they all just put under labels of 'bravery' etc with no details of events?
Most medals are general ones - for fighting in a particular war or a particular theatre of war such as the British War Medal and the Burma Star - so everyone who was there got one.0 -

Of course I now can't find my uncle, but maybe when I looked I had more information!I found my uncle on the war graves commission site, sorry too late to hunt for link now, and it didn't have much info but if your grandad died in the war that might be a good place to start, may confirm which regiment etc.
No, I have found him now. It asks for initials, and that's what they want, I put in his full first name and that doesn't work.
