Tracing war records

Hope someone can help with this, after remembrance day my dad has got all nostagic and want to
a) find my grandads service records
b) get copies of his medals made
as you can see i need a before b
Can anyone point me in the right direction or help. My grandads name was Cyril Jenkinson and all I know so far was he was in the Royal Engineers.
I look forward and appreciate any responses.

if you go on national archives https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk you can search for the medal cards for soldiers. service medals are at kew gardens i think and i think you have to get the next of kins permission which would probably be your dad. I research my family tree so will have a look on the site we use for records

If you know what medals someone was given, can you find out what they were given for? I mean, the indivual act the soldier did to be rewarded? Or were they all just put under labels of 'bravery' etc with no details of events?0

I found my uncle on the war graves commission site, sorry too late to hunt for link now, and it didn't have much info but if your grandad died in the war that might be a good place to start, may confirm which regiment etc.Signature removed for peace of mind0
