o2 broadband biling problem

I need some help regarding my 02 broadband billing problem.
Basically I signed up for o2 mobile contract back in April to take advantage fo their free BB service. Back then, they were offering free Bb for a year with all o2 mobile contacts. The lady who signed me up confirmed that I can get it free and that she will need my direct debit details just for records. I gave her details from an account that I don’t regularly use (I have 4 bank accounts).
Last Monday, I realised that I have been charged 12.50 a month for the last 7 month for my o2 BB, and that I have not been getting it for free. (I know I am partly to blame for not noticing this charge earlier).
However, I was told that they will not refund me for the months which I have paid, as ‘it is not their fault and I should have noticed the charges and called up earlier’.
the issues are:
1. I did not authorise for any direct debits to be taken out of the account. I gave the account information on the understanding that it will be for their records, and not to set up a DD
2. there is now a penalty charge on my account, due to these unauthorised DDs.
3. the contract should have been free as agreed, so the monthly charges are unjustified, irregardless of when I realised/call them up.
can someone please advise?
Thanks a lot in advance.
