Preserves book

Options
Can someone suggest me a good book of preserves, chutneys, jams, etc?

I know I can look up recipes online, but I am a bit old fashioned and love to be able to get a book. It is also easier when I cook as I can just keep the book in the kitchen and don't need to keep running to the other room to check if I putall the ingredients in the correct order!

There are few on Amazon, and I already did my money-saving bit by not buying a book from Lakeland for £15 (it was WI one, this one). Bet before I rush and buy it, I thought I'll ask all clever and experienced people here! I quite like the Good Housekeeping one, and I can't decide if there is anything better out there!

  • Good Housekeeping ones are always good and reliable, and you can often find them in charity shops.

I've heard that the book 'Mes Confitures' by Christine Ferber (don't worry, it's been translated into English lol) is supposed to be brilliant, but it's out of print and the second-hand copies are a bit out of my budget at the mo so I've never read it. Might be something worth looking out for though.

I have a WI Preserves book, but the cover is different to that, and it certainly wasn't £15! More like a fiver I'm sure. It is phenomenal!!! Highly recommended.

  • This is my absolute favourite preserving book but unfortunately it is out of print. There are used copies on Amazon for 99p. I really recommend it;) It has sweet preserves, savoury things, potted meat and fish and drinks.

    I've made

Gingerette -a spicy, citrussy drink to serve hot with whiskey
Seville Orange Jelly -much easier than marmalade
Summer berry jam -made with frozen berries
Peach and apricot preserve -made with tinned fruit
    Sweetcorn relish
    Bread and butter pickles
    Smoked haddock paste

Sorry, that what happens when I post on the fly :)
  • WI Preserves boooks are brilliant.

But I must admit having gone through the stage of have loads of recipe books ( and I mean loads) and only using may be one or two from each book. I've built up a colection from the web that I fancy and keep them in a ring binder, this might evolve into a box file with each one laminated

Yes ginvzt, that's the one I have! It's fabulous, I've made loads from in there and only had one problem so far, which was probably my own inexperience anyway!
