Right, after looking around the internet doing some camera research I have come up with a main shortlist (feel free to suggest alternatives):
-Nikon Coolpix 5200 - £90
-Fuju Finepix A345 - £88
-Olympus FE100 - £83.20
-and finally a recommendation by my brother of the camera he has but no optical zoom - Olympus C-170 only £70.
What would other people suggest as the best buy? Plus does anybody know the best value photo printer at the moment with consideration of running costs.?
Thanks again for your input.

The printer I bought was the Epson R300 , great photo reproduction & excellent ink running costs . It has 6 seperate ink chambers so if only 1 runs low you can buy just the one . In saying that though there are plenty of good compatible inks out there from other ink suppliers that do a great job & are very cost effective . £17 for 6 inks is great !
PS If you buy it don't forget to buy a Zapper ! It resets the ink cartidge chip so it doesn't keep telling you its empty when it isn't . Circa £5 for it .0 -
Fuji & Olympus use they more expensive XD memory cards so dont forget to factor that into the prices !0

.....If you can still find the Panasonic FZ-20 at Jessops for £199 you'll never, ever regret it. That's about half price and 5MP with a magnificent 12x Leica zoom lens. ....

There is no sign of the Panasonic FZ 20 on the Jessops' website. Did you see it at that price in one of their shops. Cheapest on line seems to be £249 ish
Rachelif i had known then what i know now0 -

i was looking to buy daughter a digital camera for xmas .
As i am not techie at all ,.... went to local jessops to talk to someone to try and learn what it was all about .. including the printing costs .
My original thought was to get something like the kodak easyshare with dock but the guy calculated print costs... ink and paper at nearly 50p a print.
Looking at other printers calculated cost at about 25p a print .
Then commented they and others have an instore print service at as low as 7p .
My dilemma is daughter is heavily into taking 30+ snaps on a night out ... most are rubbish !! .. and as she is not techie i can see her just printing them all off quickly ... and we'll end up with monthly bill even higher than her mobile phone !!!!.
I therefore didn't buy anything and thought i'd come on here and look for thoughts, advice and recommendations .

Save your money on a home printer, save the prints to a cd and print them at tescos £7 for 100 prints done while you shop in colour, b&w or sepia.£5 for 500

i got the fz20 from jessops a couple of days ago. brilliant camera. the bloke behind the desk said he and the manager both saved one for themselves. It was on the website but is no longer there so must be out of stock. your best bet is to go down to a dtore or phone one up0

When choosing a printer think about the max size you require & overall cost per print. It may be cheaper/much cheaper to print at a photo outlet or online store like click here / click here / click here.
I'm still having trouble choosing a camera for myself! G0 -
I've also heard that the Epson R300 is very good (at Epson click here / Full specs click here). It can print a max of A4 size.
