Please can any of you tell me what number do you use to ring Dell to place an order or after sales service. I intend to buy a Dell computer, but as my computer is playing up, I will have to do by phone. I have also heard their support is poor. Thanks

Their support isn't bad.
They are based in Ireland, so their sales line geographical number will be Irish....
You can try this one and see if they put you through:

Their support is poor - see this thread:

Try PC World as you can actually go to the store and speak to the tech support staff in case there are problems. With dell they can just cut you off and refuse to correspond.
If you do buy one, get it on a credit card as you'll be able to get a refund from the credit card company in case of problems.

Dell are probably the biggest PC manufacturer in the country though, so there will always be some dissatisfied customers.
Look at how many threads you can find doing the same search for:
Tesco
Asda
same with Vodafone, O2 etc....
I had a problem with my Dell (or rather UPS delivering it), but they sorted it out.0 -
I'm not too sure that actually being able to go into PCWorld and talk to their muppets face to face gives you any advantage over navigating the voice-mail system and talking to someone in India for Dell. In the few dealings I've had with PCworld tech support there was never a satisfactory conclusion - they are hopeless. He huihuinga taangata he pukenga whakaaro – A meeting of people; a wellspring of ideas (Maori proverb)0

Perhaps it's better to go to a well-known and recommended local computer shop? That's what I intend to do when my desktop finally conks out. No call centres, queues, muppets, or otherwise!
I certainly wouldn't buy from a national chain these days.

Here's a Geographical Number to Ring Dell
003531 2860500
It's the Irish Switchboard .... always good for me ..... if I've a techy problem I ask them to put me through to technical support in Derry.
Hope that's of help0 -
