This is so the threads can be consolidated and hopefully means there aren't multiples of the same topic cluttering up the forum unnecessarily. Makes it a better forum experience IMO .

I don't think it is rude at all, it is simply a statement of fact that the topic has already been posted and a pointer to where there is already a 17 post discussion. Not all threads can be on the first page and people not searching before posting duplicates simply unnecessarily pushes other posts down.
