:hello:
Hi Guys,
Just wanted a bit of info really.
I'm currently smoking and have recently found out that i'm pregnant
i know it's bad and i have cut down a lot but i still seem to be smoking between 5-10 a day
My question is this, before i found out i was pregnant, i was seriously considering being hypnotised to help me stop (Yes i know it's a lame excuse, but if i can stop dead then surely it's better than cutting down and then stopping in a months time)
So my questions are
1) How do i find a decent hypnotist that isn't going to make me think i'm a chicken :rotfl:
2) Will it affect me now that i'm pregnant i.e is it dangerous?
3) Will it work
Has anyone done this and stayed off the dreaded cancer sticks ?
4) My partner is a big smoker and he has mentioned stopping as well for the sake of me/the baby would they do 2 people together or would one have to sit outside
sorry for being a bit thick, don't really know about this sort of stuff.
5) How much will it cost
6) Has anyone got paul Mckenna's telephone number :rotfl:
Any info would be gratefully appreciated, i'm desperate to stop and am trying my best but i'm what you call a bit crap at willpower
Thanks for reading guys

When I was in the US one of their news shows was doing a feature on what was the best way to stop smoking. They had a group of people all trying different methods and hypnosis was the one they found worked the best :j
(I don't know much about it other that that though!)0 -

I don't knowAll I can remember is that she had to twiddle her ear if she felt the urge to smoke

(personally I'm scared enough of needles to have avoided various essential vaccinations, so you certainly won't see me near any acupuncturists....)

Hi Clumpster. This is going to sound really Sergeant Majorish, but it's not intended in a nasty way.
To start with, anyone who has read my posts must know I'm quite anti Smoking. Why ? Because it kills people and before that, it makes their teeth fall out. What may not be known is that 10 years ago I smoked.
I had tried giving up, and had always failed. My wife thought I'd given up about 4 years before I actually did!! So each time I tried after that, I had to go through it on my own.
I finally gave up when my wife fell pregnant with our first child. It was a really good reason, and when I had a really good reason it was easy. I just stopped. Very few pangs or anything.
Now Hypnosis.
I used to dabble a bit in hypnosis and I do know a little bit about it.
Hypnosis cannot make you do something you don't want to do. People who become part of a stage hypnotists act are the sort of people who after a drink or two would get up and perform odd things in front of a crowd anyway.
So would hypnosis make you give up smoking? ONLY IF YOU WANT TO GIVE UP SMOKING.
You are pregnant. Smoking is condeming your unborn child to a very high possibility of asthma, almost certainly a low birth weight, high chance of premature birth, slow/stunted growth throughout his/her life, lower IQ, increased chance of cot death, high chances of childhood leukaemias, and, if that wasn't enough, the very real chance that his mother (And father) will be dead before he hits 21.
DO YOU WANT TO GIVE UP SMOKING??????
Is hypnosis dangerous? I can't believe you asked this!!! What would you do if you knew you were doing something that might harm your baby???
WELL GIVE UP SMOKING THEN!!!!
How much does it cost?
A FRACTION OF WHAT YOU SPEND ON SMOKING!!!
A bit crap at willpower??
Then don't bother. Just kill yourself and your new child with the nicotine!
There is a New Year coming up. You have some serious questions to ask yourself. I'm sure you'll answer them correctly and stop smoking. Just visualise that tiny thing growing inside you and imagine a little fag smouldering away in it's tiny hand each time you get an urge to puff away.
Do whatever it takes, but as I said at the start, for any method to be sucessful, you really have to WANT it. And if you really do, it's not as difficult as you imagine.
Best of luck.
Edit - Just read your signature. With the money you BOTH save by not smoking, you could all get to Florida every couple of years!!!!How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
At my worst, I smoked 30 a day.... but one day just stopped. I didn't tell anyone, didn't make a big thing of it, but just took it minute by minute.... then hour by hour... then day by day... and now it's been nearly 10 years since I last had one. If you really want to stop, and being pregnant is the best reason in the world, you will be able to do it. Just don't put the cigarette in your mouth! Just try to get through the next 5 mins without one, then the next 6 mins and so on.... you'll be fine!
a quote from an article on the web... (handbag.com)
"Unborn babies are the youngest casualties of passive smoking. It has long been known that smoking in pregnancy can be harmful to the foetus. Babies born to mothers who smoke are twice as likely to be born prematurely and with a low birthweight. Their lungs are smaller and work less well. They have a higher death rate in the first few weeks of life, and they are twice as likely to die from cot death."

Thanks for the kick up the Butt guys
The worst thing for me is that i have done it before (Give up i mean) I did it for 7 years !!
I only started again when i split up with my B/F at the time (Not using that as an excuse by the way) as i started to go out with y friends more.
It started as ' Can i have a puff of your fag?'
then ' i'll buy 10 as i keep stealing everyone elses and i fell gulity'
Then ' i'll buy 20 as i keep haning mine out and i haven't got any left'
Then i'd get home at the end of the night and there was a few left in the packaet which i had the next day and it just esculated from ther, my own stupid stupid fault.
Only this time it feels different, i gave up like that (Snaps fingers) last time and it didn't bother me at all i felt no pangs no itchy feet no nothing, the only time it was slightly difficult was in the pub, but i did it
This time i have tried but it's not the same, i'm not a big smoker (Yes i know a smoker is a smoker) but cutting down has been tough, i have tried giving up and stopping completely but i seem to get this huge panic on and i don't know where it comes from.
So i'm thinking of hypnotism as
1) i think i'm going to really struggle with this and i'm desperate to be a non smoker
2) A friend of mine had it done and she is still not smoking as of about 3 years, she just stopped and she was on 40 fags a day0 -
I dont know about how great hypnosis is for giving up smoking, so cant be any help with that.
However, when I was pregnant with babies 2 and 3 (6 years apart) the hospital ran self hypnosis classes for childbirth. (So therefore, it cant be harmful to baby). This was done as a group of 3 or 4 ladies, so I dont see any reason why you and oh couldnt be seen together. I didnt use it for labour/birth (dont ask me why, i dont know), but it was fab during pregnancy.
You could ask your GP/midwife to recommend a hypnotherapist. This site may be helpful http://www.hypnos.info/pages/find.html
Also, I saw a thing on Richard & Judy (I think) ages ago about "hypnobirth". Might be worth googling it?
Anyway good luck with stopping smoking - you have a really big incentive!Threadhead0 -
Hi there
I can thoroughly recommend:
Stop smoking In One hour, by Susan E Hepburn, which is a small booklet and hypnosis CD for under ten quid on Amazon. This worked for me, but I also followed it up by reading Allen Carr's Easy Way to stop smoking book (although without doing the smoke-while-you-read thing that he suggests, as I'd already stopped by then). On Feb 4, it'll be a year since I had a cigarette, and best of all, I have no longing for one, more of an 'urghh' reaction to smoking. So no willpower etc. needed. I also bought at the same time Paul McKenna's hypnosis CD, but didn't need it by then anyway so I don't know if it's any good or not.
My main aim was to throw as much as I could at the problem, and try everything and anything as I'd been smoking for 20 years (I'm still only 33) and was utterly sick of being beholden to fags - can hardly claim myself to be an 'independent woman with my own mind' while addicted to a (I now realise stupid and piffling) substance like nicotine.
Incidentally, I did discover that most of the addiction is psychological, rather than physical which is why I think hypnosis and understanding of how the drug works helps and I don't think nicotine replacement type things (gum, patches) do any good at all.
Hope it goes well for you, it's definitely do-able so just get determined and get rid.
Cheers
