Can anyone suggest a good voip site these days.
I want to call my parents from Japan (My PC) to their landline.
I am using skype but its expensive, are there any alternatives?
There used to be that company spar voip from Germany but Im not having success with them.
Any help would be very apreciated.

I've recently started using voipdiscount.com they offer free calls to Japan landlines (and others) provided if you have freedays on your account.
If you credit 10euro to your account you will get 120 freedays where you call the free destinations to a limit of 300 minutes per week. After the 120 days either top up again or you can use the 10euro credit to make calls until you have used it up.
Works ok for me so far. Although there support is very poor and I am having difficulty sorting out a Uk number for incoming calls. See my other post in the home phones board.0 -
Just read your post again and I have it the wrong way around - nevermind calls to UK landlines are free also so still applies.
This is how I use it between Thailand and the UK.0 -

The following 2 are also good
http://www.voipstunt.com/en/index.html
http://www.poivy.com/en/index.html
you might also want to consider signing up to sipgate which will give you a free UK geographic number, which would enable people to call you anywhere in the world as though you was in the UK at local call rates

I want to call UK landlines from abroad, I havent got a land line but just from my PC.
At the moment I think skype 3.95 month for unlimited to one country is best.
I plan to just pay 1 month use a lot then 1 month without and then pay another 3.95 etc.
But am I missing a better deal with another company?
Voipdiscount sounds good with its free days (a bit complicated9 but its a 10er and I wouldnt use up the credit.0 -
Hey, a good alternative to skype is www.voipax.com. I’d never heard of it before as I was using skype mainly like everyone else. If you want to speak to your family abroad or keep in touch with mates travelling or living abroad Voipax is a good alternative. Registered Voipax users can make free phone calls to countries all over the world, for instance Cyprus, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Italy, Israel, Australia, Malaysia, Japan, Chile, Panama and many more. More then 200 countries can be called at a fraction of the cost of regular phone providers. It’s easy and convenient to make free or cheap phone calls with Voipax Softphone which is available as free download. Stay connected with Voipax and keep your relationships alive.0

2 days ago I signed up with freecall.com and paid 10 Euros + admin fees which totalled £11 something
Since I signed up I installed their App on my mobile phone and made 2 successful calls within the UK
one was for 3:50 minutes and the other for 2:27 and I was charged 0.08 euros and 0.06 euros
looking at my call history both calls are stated to have exceeded their fair use policy
I'm supposed to get free calls to UK and numerous other destinations for 90 days following signup or top ups
I know that some may say 14 euro cents isn't much but if it carrys on like this I'll use up my credit before 90 days are up and I'm not getting what I paid for.
I would have spent as much had I used my home phone with call18185.com. Longer calls would certainly be cheaper
I thought I'd mention it on here as a warning to others.
It seems that freecall.com isn't so free after allIWasLookingBackToSeeIfSheWasLookinBackToSeeIfIWasLookinBackAtHer.....0 -
