Hi there! I had all 4 removed last June (including two which were impacted!) and was very very nervous and worked up about the whole thing, but it was much better than I expected!

I looked like a hamster for about a week but that was it! I hope you enjoy your work do!

I had my top ones out last June.
Took 20 min -- three stitches in each suide. Hurt a bit, but only in a way that made me want to stick my tongue in the hole. Was eating pizza within 48 hours (as predicted by dentist) ... Best thing ever -- I feel like I reconquered my upper jaw.
The bottom teeth are completely impacted (top were a little bit visible so easier to cut in & find them) and are ruining the allignment of my teeth. Can't wait to have them otu and would do it on Christmas day if there was an appointment available.
  • I had one of my upper wisdom teeth out this time last year. I asked for the last appointment on friday afternoon and was in a right state by the time I got there, thinking about it all day. I had the local - no problem - have those all the time - but if you're a scaredy they can numb the gum with spray before they use the needle.

He wiggled the tooth a bit and then pulled - 10 seconds max. Not much blood. Went home and took it easy for the rest of the day. No pain at all and back to normal the following day.

Mind you I did take an arnica tablet every 30 minutes for a couple of hours before and for the rest of the day and then three times a day for the following three days.

I couldn't believe how easy it was and this is from a dental phobic who has to have a local for a scale and polish.

    Good luck

I had mine done a few years back, and honestly it was a doddle, I necked a bottle of rescue remedy before I went in to settle the nerves

The worst bit was the 15 injections in my mouth, My uppers were very stubborn, the dentist certainly earnt his money that day, he was all sweaty and knackered with all the effort required, I didnt feel a thing, and oddly found the whole thing hilarious apart from when he had done, and said I better clean you up before you go home, as my chest was covered in blood splatters!
As a bonus, I was chatted up and asked out by his assistant as well. :D
  • I am a dentist, and I know quite a lot of dentists, and i do not know a single one who has ever even contemplated "sitting" or "kneeling" on a patient. Despite the fact that you do not need to "pull" a tooth out, it would be completely inappropriate to do this to a patient. It is called pulling a tooth but pulling is the one thing that will probably never work.

OP, I had all 4 of mine out under local about 4 years ago-the worst bit for me was knowing what they were doing!!

You will feel pressure but it shouldn't be painful, nerves that sense pressure don't get anaesthetised like the pain ones. You must must must tell the dentist if it is painful, we are not mind readers and NONE of us want to hurt anyone.

Having it out in the dental practice is definitely a good sign!

    It honestly isn't that bad.

Well, Ive had it done..was working myself up something awful in the waiting room,it didn't help that my dentist was running half hour behind due to an emergency coming in earlier in the day. Anyway..its done now and it didn't hurt but didn't like the pushing sensation or the crack noise  but I don't suppose anyone does!! He couldn't even actually see the tooth it was that far back in my mouth,he just had to 'feel around for it'  I was shtting myself!! I had a look at it when it came out..couldn't believe the size of it it was huge!!!
Ive been told not to spit or rinse, but am I ok to have a drink of water? Also do I carry on brushing my teeth as normal, just don't spit out like I usually would?
The local is wearing off now and Im feeling abit of soreness.

I can't help feeling you should have been giving an information sheet with aftercare instructions. In the absence of that I would phone the dentist tomorrow and check when you would be OK to start doing what!

Yes, I was given a piece of paper with a few instructions on,but it doesn't mention any of the things I asked in my last post. I brushed my teeth as normal this morning anyway apart from the sore area, and no more bleeding,so hopefully Ive not done any damage. I went to work this morning without taking any painkillers..BIG mistake, my cheeks swollen up abit and my face throbs. First thing I did when I got home was to take some ibuprofen and thats done the trick..eased it for now. Im just so glad Ive got it over and done with, although I can still hear the crack that was made when tooth came free of gum. Yuck!!

yup, keep taking painkillers for a few days otherwise you will feel it being slightly painful. Think your supposed to start salt mouthwashes now though to keep the area infection-free..... (although ask your dentist...not every1 is the same). That really really helps
