Ive had my regular check up with my dentist this morning and got the dreaded news Ive known has been coming for a long time..Ive got to have an upper wisdom tooth pulled out. Its been causing trouble for a long time so I know it has to be done but Im absolutley terrified  Im scared of the needle in my mouth and the 'tugging' Ive been told I will feel.
Also, the date Ive been booked in for it doing is 2 days before my works xmas meal/drinks. Should I try re book it for after that or will it be no problem? Please help me someone,Im shtting myself!!

I had an x-ray on mine a few weeks ago, apparently was urgent, though next appointment is feb before they look at the results.
No way am i going to have this taken out with me away, either im asleep or it stays in...
When you wake up, you will have bruises on your chest from where they have been kneeling on you..0 -
I'm sure you'll be fine.
I take it this is just at the dentist, and not a hospital job. If so, it'll probably be very straight forward. The gum is very insensitive right back there, so you probably won't even know when the anaesthetic goes in.How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

I am so angry with you, are stupid or what. Not helpful, if you cant make someone feel better dont post such purile rubbish which is downright cruel.
Yes you will feel a tug but thats all it is, a feeling, there is no pain because your gum will be numb, but its out in a matter of a second. It's an open wound so i would take advice from your dentist about your works do.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I had my wisdom tooth out about 5 years ago and I can tell you that you WILL NOT have bruising on your chest!!
There was no-one more scared than me, I couldnt even have a check up for about 18 years cos of my fear.
Had to go to hospital to get mine out and opted for local anaethetic, you do feel a 'pulling and tugging sensation' but not pain. If I had to do it again I would opt for being asleep, cos Iam such a scaredy cat. Not a pleasant experience, obviously, but well worth it in the end.Just to win anything would be great!!0 -
Yes, just at the dentists. That's a good sign then?
Thanks for the helpful comments.love my little man he is amazing :j0 -
helen81 - you'll be fine, honestly. My two upper ones were a breeze! And as others have said, that is utter and complete rubbish that you'll have bruises on your chest!!! I would say that you'll be unlikely to be able to tackle a full Christmas dinner 2 days later - personally I would have the appointment and just manage what I could at the dinner / party and not worry too much. As long as it's not too formal you could always take a bottle of milkshake / yoghurts / smoothies in your bag if you are finding it hard to eat.0

Honest - you'll be fine!
I had the xray, which showed one could come out quite easily at the dentist, the other three would have to come out at hospital.
I am the biggest wimp in the world - and cried like a baby the morning I was having the one out at the dentist. Worst part was the needle - then there was a little tugging but it was over in a couple of minutes - I felt a bit silly for being such a baby!!
Before having the three out at hospital under general - i got all the usual horror stories from friends (some friends!!), about bruised chests, split lips, being unable to eat for a week!!
I came round, feeling a bit sick and like i'd been punched in the jaw - but was fine.
I went home an hour or so later, and that evening, I sent OH to the chinese to get my tea, i was starving - and went back to work next day.0 -
hi i had two out years ago and the dentists prescribed me two tranquilizers one to take the night before and one to take the morning of the op (as i was so nervous) as a result i was pretty much wasted as he gave me another before he started.
I must say though it did make me want to go to sleep which they wouldn't allow.
However i really don't remember much about the actual extraction and i certainly didn't have any bruises.
I must tell you though that my face swelled up massively afterwards and i really couldn't face much more than ice lollies for a good few days afterwards.
The worse bit for me was having my stiches out afterwards but even that wasn't as bad as i expected.I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -

can i ask were your wisdon teeth impacted. i thinks its unusual to have stitches unless they are digging them out from under the gum.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
