Yes they were which i suppose is why i was so swollen afterwards!!
They had to cut the gum to get to them.

i thought so, presumably the OP's are already through so it will be just a normal extraction - perhaps this will make her feel better

I have had the two upper ones out within a year of each other!!! The first one did bleed alot but suffered no pain So you must rest apparently! Second one was brill, did rest and didn't bleed as much!! You have nothing to worry about as long as you do as your told by the text they give you!!:D
Sunday 23rd September 2007 I came to my senses and discovered fresh air!!:j
    :hello: ELLO! :hello:
  • As an ex dental nurse I have to say that in 9 years of seeing/assisting, I NEVER SAW A DIFFICULT UPPER WISDOM TOOTH EXTRACTION!

Cheer up, they are easy peasy.

I was just simply telling what happened to me.

Had 1 tooth out, would not come. Ended up with dentist on me whilst i was still awake, 10mins later 1 tooth out, alot of blood and 1 bruised chest.

Thanks all, my dentist has said that the only problem that he can forsee is actually getting to the tooth as its so far back. He hasn't xrayed my mouth though to see how easy it will be..should he have?!

    Not always necessary.

It might show up the oustde possibility of something that might later 'surprise' him, but the decisionto take one or not has to be made by the dentist who's actually seen the tooth, and is going to take it out.

If he hasn't taken one, it's because he feels he doesn't need one.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

I had three of my wisdom teeth taken out a couple of years ago, and I can honestly say it didn't hurt at all, either then or at the time. I found it a bit of a shock to the system, though, and did spend the rest of the day lying on the sofa feeling sorry for myself!
Do pay a lot of attention to what they say about aftercare though. There's a nasty condition called dry sockets which you want to avoid. Make sure they give you a sheet (or get one off the internet) telling you how to take care of everything and you'll be fine. Honest!!
  • OP if your dentist thought for any reason there would be any difficulties they would have referred you to a hospital. The fact that they are prepared to do it means it should be pretty straight forward. I had all 3 of mine extracted by a specialist surgeon as they were impacted and it wasn't that bad. It was 5 or 6 days before I could eat normally again. You might not be that bad but it might limit what you can eat at your Christmas dinner. If you delay it will you be in pain? Honestly I put off having mine out for ages in spite of pain and infections. A week after they were out and I'd recovered I felt silly for having put it off for so long.

I've had one upper and two lower wisdom teeth removed. The upper one was painless - absolutely no bother at all, during or after. It was so quick I wouldn't believe it was out.

    You'll be fine
