anyone got a recipe for apple chutney made in a slow cooker?
have got an apple tree and this year it's doing quite well, and I love apple chutney, but guess the easy route is to use the slow cooker - any help appreciated :j

Made some Apple chutney in my slow cooker last week and its really tasty. However not sure how long it will keep and whether I should leave it to mature!

It is, and so easy that I'm making some more today! Also cheap! Apples free and just a few onions, sugar and spices. If I can figure out how to do it I'll add it as a recipe to the slow cooker list.

Just been typing it into my special recipe file so here goes:

    Slow Cooker Apple Chutney

    3 lb cooking apples
    1 lb onions
    1 ½ lb brown/Demerara sugar
    ½ pint malt vinegar
    2 cloves crushed garlic
    1 tsp dried ginger
    1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp cinnamon or 1 cinnamon stick
    1 tsp curry powder
    4 tsp sea salt

    1. Heat up slow cooker for 20 minutes.
    2. Chop apples and onions in food processor
    3. Place all ingredients in slow cooker
    4. Cooke on HIGH for 10 hours or overnight.
    5. Put into warmed clean jars whilst still warm.

My recipe book doesn't say if you should leave it to mature or how long it keeps. Most 'normal' recipes say keep chutney for 2-3 months to mature. However we have eaten a jar already and its lovely with cold meats, pork chops etc. The great thing about doing it in a slow cooker is that once you've put your ingredients in its effortless - no standing and stirring a boiling pan for hours and no messy pan to clean aftwewards as I just put my crockpot in the dishwasher!

We made some last week after weeks of creating tomato chutney.

Our apple chutney recipe is pretty similar to super41 (but only 1 tsp salt) but is done in the pressure cooker.

Still have masses of apples so will need to keep on with the production line.

Think we'll have to give a lot away this year! It has been a good year.
    Where now?

I bought a jar of spiced tomato chutney at the weekend from a local organic shop.
Its bloomin lovely but £2.50 a jar which is a bit excessive.
I fancied making my own, and wondered if anybody had a recipe for tomato chutney but also my dad tells me its smelly old game?
I was wondering if it would be possible to either make it in my clow cooker or even in the breadmaker (morphy richards fastbake) as I know it can make marmalade.

    thanks in advance :)
embarrassed to say I used to work for barclays..sorry
