Jus had another thought. some gyms let you just go to the classes & pay as you go but they don't usually advertise this so try asking when you ring around.
My gym that I have annual membership to let's non-members go to the classes for £2 to £3.50 which works out cheaper than a gym membership and I think the classes are the best thing for gettingfit/thin as you then go evry week/class.
Also swimming can be a cheap option depending on your local pool.0 -
Would love to spend my nectar points in the GYM!! Is there there any Cannons Gym around Merseyside?

If you live in the Wirral area, we joined a gym in Upton - Owens Health and Fitness and got a years membership for less than £200 for both. They are constantly offering discounts, especially at this time of year, definitely worth looking at. The equipment is good, there are plenty of instructors available and there is a steam room in the changing rooms. Now I just need to get up the energy to go occasionally and make the most of that membership
Hope this helps someone. :T“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

Most gyms offer concession rate for full time students. Go to the one which is nearest to you so avoid travelling time. A long time ago I was on this rate at about £16 per month in council ran gym.0

Virgin Active for a Stuendt is £26 a month unlimited access!
Includes Pools, Saunas, Gym, Internet Café, Classes!
Great Deal IMO.
But then again not that many are students here0 -
I joined my Local Authority (South Ribble) gym scheme last week, it has recently been taken over by a private company called Serco.
The cost for an individual membership is £27 per month, no joining fee and you can stop paying at any time, ie in March when the New Year resolutions have long been forgotten.
The best bit however is that a colleague was in the gym when I was having a look round and we got talking about a group membership and it turns out that for a joint membership for 4 the cost was just £60, ie £15 pp. And then my colleagues wife got involved and somehow haggled that down to just £52 for the 4 of us, so I now have access to all 4 of my Local Authority gyms and swimming pools for the princely sum of £13 per month !!!!!!!!!
The trouble is when I don't feel like going I'll be telling myself, well its only £13 it doesn't matter if I give it a miss this week.0 -

Most gyms will have corporate memberships (my local is £32 a month for unlimited gym use, unlimited swimming and unlimited classes and no membership fee - Leisure Connections) so if you have an evening job or anything, see if your employers are on the corporate list for the local gym. I joined because I worked for the County Council, but I know Tescos and the other supermarkets use it, as well as other local employers and the hospital etc. See if your college is on the corporate list.
The student rate is very similar, but does have a few time restrictions (off peak only) Hope this helps0 -
I needed a 6 month membership, and my nearest gym (LA fitness in Bayswater) only lets you do a 12 month contract. Thus I bought a membership off someone who had 6 months left to run. They were paying £56 a month, but they gave me extra cash so I only pay £40 a month.0
