Hello everyone. Has anyone tried this machine?

Thinking of hiring one for a month. It would probably be used by all family (four of us). We have tried the Back Life machine and weren't that impressed.
TIA

Hi Lou!
Not heard of this but I has something a little similar that was used semi-regularly for a few months then disappeared to the spare room...
I think you should take advantage of their trial befor you buy, for what it is worth...btw, there are a few different options out there that you might want to consider...I have heard that inversion therapy is very good for chronic back pain. The other thing would be to go along to a chiropractor or book in for a sports massage.
The back mobilser does seem to be backed up by professionals, etc, but I wonder if a machine can be that good at having a personalised level of responsiveness....
Like I said, I have not tried it, so please do not think I am trying to put you off too much and hope you get the feedback you need!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Thanks for the link - it looks very interesting.
I'm a bit shocked at how expensive it is as a 'one size fits all solution', still at least I know about it if my clients ask.

Hi Lou49,
Did you ever get around to trying the mobiliser?
I have chronic back pain and am thinking of trying it. It is very expensive so it would be great to hear if anyone has really benefited from using it before I try. I can't help but think that if it is as good as they say, everyone would be using it.
Thanks1 -
Hi there. No, we didn't but my dh purchased a Backlife about three weeks ago. He likes it and thought it a good investment as was having back trouble. I'm not that keen, and my kids (grown-up) aren't either, so to be honest it's sitting round in the lounge ATM, being a bit redundant! Now what I could do with is some sort of a neck life, as I get neck problems and so does DS who's doing A level exams at moment and complaining of stiff neck through stress!0

Hi Lou49,
Thanks for replying! I have just looked up Backlife and unfortunately it won't be suitable for me as I have upper back and neck pain.
Will let you know if I try the mobiliser - my dh is skeptical and so first I need to persuade him to let me spend the money which will be a job in itself.
All the best

I have tried the Mobiliser - had it for a month. It's a Japanese invention and it certainly feels like it's doing good (read as "it's not that comfortable to use"!) For me it didn't actually seem to do much but my problem was a spasm rather than structural so perhaps that was the difference. It's a well made machine though - cost new was around 2500 I think!
I found that some exercises developed by a scientist made more difference and were free. If you google - bird dog cat camel - (really, I'm serious) you'll see what I'm talking about.0 -
Hi pjk,
Thanks for your comments. I already do both of the exercies you mention (just know them by different names) as part of an exercise program prescribed by my physio.
My problem is muscles and joints although which is actually causing the problem I don't know. I think I will speak to my pain consultant about the mobiliser at my next appointment as he might know whether it is suitable. I am reluctant to spend so much money to hire it for a month when it could be better spent on physio although I am feeling really quite desperate to try something new.
All the best!1 -
Hi needhelp1,
There are some schools of thought that suggest not enough magnesium can lead to muscle pain and stiffness. Certainly magnesium is vital to correct functioning of the body and it's not something you can easily overdose on so it's relatively safe - and far safer than some of the pain drugs you can end up on! I found it helped me quite a lot with general muscle pain ("magnesium malate" worked best for me - got it from iherb.com). I'd say that if your pain doesn't have an obvious cause you might consider supplementing - just don't bother with the magnesium you can get on the high street.
Hope you get some relief soon.0 -
Certainly magnesium... not something you can easily overdose on so it's relatively safe .
Apologies for ruthless snip..I think this is at risk of being medical advise, and I think its not totally accurate. I read fairly recently about people being regularly over advised to take magnesium at ''overdose'' levels that can be dangerous. I say this as a magnesum taker who occasionally feels the impact of over taking at the dose advised to me, a ''normal'' amount, so cut back then.0 -
That's fair enough - thank you for your post "lostinrates".
In relation to pain medications, particularly the ones that are given for muscle pain (like ibuprofen and Voltarol) I think magnesium is RELATIVELY safe and the chance of overdose is RELATIVELY low when taken according to the label. Megadosing, which some more of the more quacky type people suggest, is a completely different matter.
Also, I think it's worth considering that different forms of magnesium can have very different effects on the body - magnesium citrate can be a powerful laxative, magnesium oxide is probably worthless, magnesium ascorbate can provide so much vitamin C that it depletes vital minerals like zinc, and magnesium orotate can raise orotic acid levels beyond what some consider safe.
But I take the point that it could have been construed as advice, it wasn't intended to be, it was meant as an avenue to consider.0
