sorry im not sure what you mean here, are you talking about protection as in anti virus etc or the actual windows OS?

Yes I'm wondering why it has become a three legged donkey e.g. what anti-virus, firewall etc. do you use and what have you done to try to clean the system up?
 Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:

Does it matter whether anyone would know or not, illegal is illegal no matter how you sugar coat it.

Anyway, I agree with espresso, a decent anti virus is a must to prevent repeat!

    Listen MonkeyBrains....

As pointed out, the OP has a COA. Get it? She has a legitimate licence, just missing the discs. Now that you've proven yourself the complete idiot, will you now go away?

I have uninstalled nearly everything I don't use and same for startup, only a few things running there too. Use ccleaner now and a few different tools over the years to try and clear it up but they dont seem to make much difference. I've defragged and restored lots as well and thats not helped either.

I use AVG 8 right now and windows firewall.
I've asked around for copies of windows discs i could borrow but nobody seems to have the proper discs, just the restore ones from the manufacturers that sold the pcs to them

How much RAM installed? You'll find that on the interface of CCleaner when you open it.

I made one simple point about pirated software and now you've gone on a complete offensive. Well done, you've won the internet!

Don't you love the righteous souls on these fora?
We should add a preaching forum as a subcategory to the techie one...
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
  • I really wasn't, but you can't help but explode in some kind of rage over it. Masking something? Anyway, this is counter productive to the actual matter at hand so this dog can be put to sleep.

To the OP, what software have you been using to maintain your computer? Have you ran a defragmenting tool recently?
  • I have 1.2 Gb or RAM, a 1gb stick i bought a little while back and a 256mb (i guess) stick that was installed when i bought it.
I don't think its a virus or anything as it has just gradually been getting slower and slower over the years. The extra ram i bought did speed it up quite a bit but over the four and a bit years i've had the computer i've added and removed tons and tons of programs and i'm told even when you uninstall a program properly eventually it all just clogs up the system and makes it run slowly.

I cant see how to attach a file to post a pic of my performance. little help?

What on earth are you on about? Exploding in a rage about me sending a PM to a member in need?
You are a self righteous twit of the highest order.

Don't try to pretend that all of a sudden you want to help the OP.
Just get lost, it's taken care of.
  • slow is slow compared to what is used to run like, and hanging up every time i try to open something new or do anything.

The peaks in the processor use are just me switching browsers and trying to save the image, not things i would think would require so much effort from the processor.

after i installed the new stick of ram it did seem to fly for a while but started slowing down like before. Now its better than before i added ram but nothing like when it was new (as far as i can remember) i'm sure there's plenty of room for improvement
