Barclays Fees

I logged on to my Barclays account today to find I am overdrawn. I have a £1k overdraft limit which I never use and a £500 reserve facility. The problem arose because I transferred £1,300 from my Barclays account to my Alliance and Leicester acc. Because of the way A&L work the transfer is done from their end rather than using Barclays site. Anyway the transfer went through twice so now I'm £1,100 pounds overdrawn.
Before anyone suggests it I didn't click twice. I do recall there was a problem (timeout) when I tried to do it so I checked that the balance hadn't reduced on my Barclays account and then did it again. The transfers only took place Friday and the funds haven't actually cleared in my A&L account so I can't even transfer them back again yet.
I have moved money from another account to clear the reserve facility (keeping up with me?) but don't have access to enough to clear the overdraft. I've been charged £22 for use of the reserve facility plus obviously there'll be interest to pay too.
So the question! Is there any hope of me getting the fee / interest payments refunded from Barclays or A&L?

Is it a Direct Debit? If so, claim from Barclays under the Direct Debit indemnity scheme, as the payment going through twice was an obvious mistake. They'll give you a refund, if not immediately then within a few days.0

No not a DD. It was a payment/transfer I initiated throught the A&L website.0

If you initiated through the A&L website (i.e. the money was "pulled") then most likely it's a Direct Debit underneath. Pursue the indemnity thing.
However, chances are Barclays won't refund your fees. They've now got a policy of not refunding any fees, although I'm not sure if they'd be more lenient in this case since it isn't actually your fault.0 -
Ok Thanks it's worth a try.0

When (if) this happens again, check your A&L 'activity log' to see if your payment was successful. The activity log lists everything you've done since being logged on and, with further interrogation, everything you've done over the previous x months.
I'm not sure the DD guarantee will help you (nor whether A&L will indemnify Barclays when asked) because these were user-initiated DD pulls, but good luck anyway.0 -

I realise now I wouldn't have seen it but when I do transfers between my other accounts (Barclays, Egg and RBS) I see the transactions straight away. I foolishly thought I would have with A&L  .
I'm going to have to call A&L anyway because I want the money transferred straightaway to minimise interest payable.0 -

Just called A&L. They say they can do nothing until it clears. As it hasn't cleared I was advised to try to get it cancelled under the indemnity scheme (as obviously already advised here). Guess I'll have to speak to Barclays tomorrow.
Wish me luck :rolleyes:0 -
Good luck, and don't worry. You will get your charges revoked.0

Funds pulled into (savings) accounts via DD are generally 'quarantined' for a period, because DD's can be, and often are, recalled (you may find Barclays are already pulling the second one back anyway). Check your T&C's but I believe it could be as long as 3-4 days.
No I don't have to do DD pull with the other accounts.
I assume Barclays aren't pulling the other one back because the £22 charge is already showing on my account dated the 17th
I'm hoping if I can get on the 'phone early tomorrow then there won't be any excuse not to refund the charges.0
