"1 GB" RAM, "8 GB" hard drive (presumably solid state disk with it being so small).

Although having looked are you sure you've got your figures right? Both the 904HDs on the site have an "80 GB" hard drive and the 900A has the "8 GB" hard drive.

if i recall £200 will get you an acer one with 1 gig of ram and 120gig hard disk, probably more useful if it to be their main pc

It's worth noting that the 900A comes with linux rather than Windows.

No, it's simply just the obvious difference in the numbers. It'd be an extremely bizarre setup to have a computer with more RAM than hard disc space.

It is equivalent to the difference between a car with a petrol engine and one with a diesel engine. As with this analogy different people prefer one to the other. Neither is wrong or "better" just more appropriate in different situations.

As you said you don't know the difference between linux and windows I would suggest you find a local retailer and try them out. I think Dixons have Acer laptops on display - Just don't believe anything the sales assisstant telles you - And don't buy one from there :-)

Well it's an entirely different operating system. If you're already familiar with Windows then you might prefer to stick with that.
