Central heating - on for longer at lower temp or shorter periods at higher temp?

Just now in the evenings we have the heating on for an hour, off for half an hour and do this 3 times. would it be better to have it on constantly throughout this period at a lower temp set on the boiler? have recently installed a combi condenser and new radiators everywhere.

Do you not have a thermostat? My boiler is switched on and off as needed to maintain the temperature. So on a mild night like Sat it stayed off after an initial 45 minute burn. Other nights it will come on more often if it is colder.
If you have TRVs all round set those to the required level and only turn the boiler setting up in freezing weather, and back it off towards spring.

As a house will lose heat more rapidly the hotter it is, I believe it would make sense to maintain a lower temperature continually with thermostats rather than inefficiently heating to a high temperature for short periods with the timer.0
