Broadband for Mac user - help!

I've got an Emac 10.4 OSX
I'm currently with Wanadoo, using a D-Link modem via my ethernet port.
Unfortunately I had a powercut a few weeks ago, and it appears to have blown up the ethernet port on my Mac - so no internet connection.
I then bought a Netgear modem that worked on either ethernet or USB, was meant to be Mac compatible - but guess what, couldn't get it to work, adn when I phoned Netgear, they said that the USB driver was only PC compatible. "Why don't you plug it into the ethernet port?" they asked. ARGGGHH!
Anyway, the upshot is I need some lovely techy person to recommend either
A: A Mac compatible USB modem (so I can stay with Wanadoo)
B: A Mac-friendly ISP who will provide me with a USB modem
or
C: How on earth I can go about getting my Mac's ethernet port fixed
No one told me it was going to be this complicated when I bought a Mac "ooh, they're very user-friendly" they said. Yeah, right, when they work, they're great, when they don't you need a computer degree (which I don't have) to sort them out.
Help me, please!

Ironically, it was a Speedtouch modem (free from Wanadoo) I had originally, but I never successfully managed to download the USB driver I needed to make it work onto my Mac.
That was when I decided to buy the D-Link ethernet modem - I decided that the Speedtouch modem was rubbish (it was probably me being rubbish actually, but I found the Wanadoo/Speedtouch support less than helpful).
But thanks for your efforts - they're really appreciated.0 -
Zen Internet offer a dedicated Mac support team. They are the top rated ISP on the comparison pages at https://www.adslguide.org.uk . They are also the top rated ISP for adsl at https://www.ispreview.co.uk . They have also won ISP of the year for the second time on the trot at PCPro. You really can't go wrong with this ISP.

Are you certain that port has permanently failed? - I'll tell you why I ask.
Twice I've disconnected the PC and telephone line in thunderstorms. The first time I reconnected, the dial-up modem didn't work. I couldn't understand this, as it hadn't been struck - it said it was dialling but was silent (I plugged in headphones to listen). So I exchanged the modem under warranty.
Same thing nearly a year later. But in the end I got it going again. It wasn't by uninstalling and reinstalling though. It seemed to make a difference switching the main power on with the modem connected and not-connected ... not-connected worked.
I have no real ideas why it reset, or if it's worth you messing about - as if you hadn't already ...0 -
