                    Good Morning
I am writing this on behalf of my husband who was involved in a car accident yesterday. Whilst stationary in a parked car bay, another driver going 10mph reversed into him- admitting full liability. Apparently, she did not see him because she was wound up from shouting at someone in the shop. My husband has witnesses.
The car hatch has been severely damaged and the bumper has been scratched through to the plastic. We have also seek medical advice as since this happened he has sufferred severe headaches, painful shoulders and low back pain. He was supposed to even be on over time today- which is becoming sparse now adays.
The reason for the enquiry is that to help reduce our insurance last year we said we could pay an excess of £900 even though hubby had been driving for 8 years. Now this is affordable, but with Christmas coming up- we would rather this stayed with us, rather than waiting months to get it back via claim. Our own insurers have stated that we can go through a third party company. The other persons insurer is Tesco.
Just wondering what other MSEs would do in this situation please?
Many thanks

how much is the car worth? how much will the damage cost to repair? how much will the other person be willing to fork out to save losing their no claims? with your husband's injuries, it may pay to go through the insurance and wait... if he gets worse, and you've not claimed, it could cause hassle later if you try to get compensation for the injury.... give us a few more details and we may be able to advise better..0

I hope hubby doesn't go on any rollercoasters or dodgems.
I also hope you flower it up a bit from a 10mph dink to something more believable for the compo claim.0 -
            10mph, lol0

Utter rubbish at that speed. I really hope you don't decide to pursue this because you might find yourself being prosecuted for fraud.
It's because of these kinds of claims that insurance is so high.0 -
Contact one of those ambulance chasers, "Where there's blame there's a claim". Should make a nice payment in a couple of years  How come the excess is so high at 900 squid, never heard of one that high, except for a 17 year old who passed his test a couple of days ago.0

on my insurance i can choose the excess0 -
Ring the other party's insurance and explain the situation. If the person who damaged the car has addmitted it etc them there insurance will pay up no issue or cost to you just pick a garage of the other insurers choice or get a few quotes yourself and give them to the insuracne company and explain you would prefere these garages due to location etc and so long as the price is reasonable they will pay up no cost to you.0

Apparently... you can go to hospital with 'whiplash' and they can't prove nor disprove that you have it.
Which is why everyone is on the bandwagon...
I think we should give the OP benefit of the doubt tho, her husband may genuinely be in some discomfort.
Re the insurance excess... up to you how you play that one.Genie

If the other hit him from a standing start (not that the OP has said that it was, of course), then I would be very surprised if it was going as fast as 10mph.
I'm not surprised he has injuries though. Everyone does these days. Much more than people used to, when cars weren't as "safe" as they are now. Frightening really. You'd think they'd be looking into why more and more people are getting injured in very minor accidents when cars are supposed to be better built now. Of course, whiplash is one of those things that hospitals cannot prove or disprove, very often. Medical records will usually just give the patient's version of events rather than any medical opinion/findings. I guess a lot of the time, it's so the hospital isn't found negligent, in case there does turn out to be a real injury.0
