Makro have the Sony Cybershot DSCS730 for £49.99 + VAT this week, if there's one near you.
It has 7.2Mp, 2.4" screen, 3x optical zoom, 22Mb internal memory.
I'm not an expert but it sounds good for a cheap one!
Same camera in Amazon for £59.99 (free delivery) if you've no Makro card, not much dearer either, since VAT is added to Makro prices at the till.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
For that sort of money personally I'd go for this... http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/5801291/Fuji-FinePix-S5700-7-1-Megapixel-Digital-Camera/Product.html
The lens is the most important bit, don't get caught up in megapixels.
[Edit] Oops missed the bit about small enough to take out on nights out....probably not what you're looking for then."A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0 -

Hi there, I am interested in this camera but am very clueless. From looking at the spec I can't figure out the following and wondered whether you could kindly advise, please?
I would like to know how I would transfer images from the camera to my laptop. I don't have a slot to slide any flat memory thing into (sorry don't know what that is called) (I do of course have USB ports) What is an SD card? Is this the flat memory thing? Would the camera come with one of these? It says on the spec SD but does it come with or do you have to buy separately?
Hope these are not stupid questions and if there is a noddy guide to all this if you could point me in the right direction that would be most helpful

I'm a long way from being an expert, but here goes........the SD card is the little memory thing that goes into the camera to store your pics. Usually you have to buy these as an extra and I wouldn't get less than a 1gb size or even 2gb - play.com have them cheaper than most and they're not nearly as expensive as they used to be anyway.
I have a similar Fuji Finepix to the this one myself and it came with a usb cable for linking your camera and computer together to transfer pictures. It's all very easy, even for me and I'm a dedicated technophobeand Fuji manuals are designed for the likes of me!!

Thanks so much Consultant31 - sounds like Fuji would suit me too!

For cameras to take on nights out, something small like a Canon IXUS or water/shock proof (but still relatively small) like an Olympus mju series camera may be ideal. These can be got for about £120 - you may get a decent deal somewhere when taking into account any money-off vouchers that may be available and remember Quidco if buying online!0 -
I know someone who has this camera, he has taken some fantastic shots on it. £80 is well worth the money!

If you have problems connecting your camera to the laptop (eg. if the software is not suitable), then you can buy a card reader with a usb cable. You simply connect this to the USB port on your laptop and insert a SD Card (the flat memory thingy) and transfer the details this way. You will probably have to install a driver (should come with the card reader) to get your laptop to recognise it first before you can use it. I am a technophobe but managed to use one.
I got my card reader from memorybits.co.uk for under £10. Look for one that can read the different types of memory card your camera lists (and possibly more).
