New award and Child tax credit advice pls.

My son has been awarded the Lr mobility,Mr care.DLA
I rang IS as im reciving this, however they cannot pay me the added premium for disability,as I only recieve IS for myself and not the children(used to be paid together,no longer is).I recieve CTC for the children as a seperate thing.
Ive phone the TC up ans I got rather a snotty response IMO,She said that I might be entitled to additional money, she would pass it on somewhere)didnt say where),and they would decide if I was going to get anything.
Now if I do get something are they likely to bk date it,to when DLA bk dated it too.12/05/2008.
IS said if they would have paid me then they would have done this, but when i asked about this to TC she wouldnt answer me,and just said as someone else decides if I get it then she cant say.I did ask if she could explain the procedure as I am unfamiliar with it,but she said I would recieve a new notification in the post, and thats it.
So now I'm non the wiser,Ive tried to find out how much I might get,but I dont really know where to look.

thankyou all for your time.

When you speak to TCO you are speaking to operators who don't usually have much insight into the payments side of things.

You will get the DP Premium through CTC, I'm sure, and I imagine there will be some backdating too.

If you were on standard CTC, you will get the disability premium of CTC which is £43 and a few pence a week. It should be backdated to the start of the DLA award.

    Conor---
Yes i'm on the standard rate for 2 children.
    Thank-you so much,x
  • good luck I hope you get it backdated......its what you are entitled to.
    :hello:Time2start a new year diet for a new me:j
  • Call up and make sure it is fully backdated to the actual entitlement start date - if the correct guidance has been followed this will be done but in a lot of cases I have noticed that advisers add the details to the system which automatically backdates for up to 93 days (3 months). If you have only recently been awarded the DLA you should have the amount fully backdated.

Thankyou for this post as it helped me when i rang the tax credit place today.

As it is they have bk dated me 93 days,I have complained and they say they can only over ride this is i go to appeal.I did say i only got the letter of conformation last week,so thats why it has over run past the allocated time of approx 13 weeks till it usually gets sorted.

So now waiting for the forms, any thing in particular that i have to put in it,or is it just going to be the general basic thing.

He asked if I asked for it to be fully bk dated in the original phone call,I said yes and told him of the lady I spoke to who said she wasnt going to add anything on to it,as that wasnt her decision to decide if thats what would happen.Looks like I got someone who was having a bad day...lol.

There are 3 rates of DLA.

The lower rate gives no increase to TC
The middle rate gives an annual TC increase of £2540*
The higher rate gives an annual TC increase of £1020*

    * Not applicable to OP, but for any-one reading this who due to income only receives £10 or less in TC, the amounts above will be less upon actual payment due to income levels.

You should call again if you can be bothered - instead of writing a letter - and ask to complain to a manager.

If you only recently received the letter you have called "within 3 months of the change". The change being that you just got awarded the DLA.

As long as you notify TCO within 3 months the adviser CAN backdate more than 93 days. It is the only time where they can over-ride the 93 days backdating.

The disability element can be backdated more than three months if you notify them within three months of the decision being made.
