Latest dishwasher tablets contain salt so no need for extra.
  • Use the cheapest tabs I can find.

In a soft water area, or if you have a separate water softener, salt in the dishwasher is a complete waste of money. Cheap tablets are mostly salt as are the "3 in 1" versions. In a soft water area, you're much better off using just the powder and (if your machine has a slot for it) the rinse aid.

Use half the amount recommended (in the washing machine too). I'm sure Bosch etc have large amounts of shares in Proctor & Gamble!
Signature on holiday for two weeks
  • Did first wash last night with cheap tabs, no salt or rinse aid and dishes are just as dirty as when they went in *sigh*.
Tabs didn't dissolve, so am off to try liquid detergent and make sure the water is getting hot when I run it again.
It's a cheapie, so I didn't expect miracles, but all the same ....
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

Are you sure it actually ran? I've never heard of the tablet not dissolving and the only time it happens with ours is when I forget to start it :)
  • LOL! Yes, it ran. There's no mistaking the noise. It's loud!

    Always worth checking :)
  • in hard water areas, you still need the salt in the machine. everything comes out dull after a while if you dont use it.
  • Found out that the arm wasn't rotating freely as the cage for dishes is a very poor design and things were slipping during the wash.
Have checked and water is getting hot, so only about 40 mins to go to see if it has worked properly.
Yes, latecomer you had a valid point!
