  • i thought he could apply for a post office account whilst we try to get to the bottom of all this, its such a nuisance!

Not really - Post Office accounts can only receive benefits and other government payments, not wages.

The best bet would be to open a basic bank account somewhere that isn't NatWest or Nationwide (Barclays, Lloyds, HSBC, whatever). If he gets turned down, he should ask his employer to be paid in cash as he has no other means of doing so.
  • gosh thanks i didnt know that about the post office account, i will try him with co-op as i have a cashminder account with them.

Maybe there is a CIFAS warning held against the address...
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.

There is another credit agency you need to check the full details are in this article below:
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2008/nov/15/national-hunter-credit-agency

The article states that financial institutions only use this agency as the credit reference agency of last resort if they think something is not quite right. I suggest the OP entire family who live at their address gets their records.

To get information from them you need to do a £10 Data Subject Access Request not a £2 one like the other credit agencies.

National Hunter's website is nhunter.co.uk. Its address is N Hunter Limited, PO Box 2756, Stoke-on-Trent, ST6 9AQ. It has no telephone or email address for the public to use.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)
  • thanks, i hadn't heard of that agency.the last time i done my credit check there was a CIFAS note on it, but to a previous address, not to this one and had someone else's name on it  think i am going to be busy this week!

he then applied for a nationwide current account as he needed it to get his wages paid into. he already held a savings account with nationwide,
Is he being regarded as a credit risk are suspected of fraud? If the former then there should be no problems opening a savings account while the problems are sorted out. Many (most?) savings accounts can have money credited directly via BACS. Perhaps the existing Nationwide account is one of those.

Does anyone else in the house share the applicant's name?
  • Thanks evryone for your advice. i ordered the credit reports (yet to arrive) but in the meantime my son rang natwest again yesterday complaining of the ongoing issues and spoke to a manager there. She agreed that the action they had taken in respect of closing his account was harsh and will amend his credit file, as that £600 transaction clearly had nothing to do with him. All in all this has been a bit of an ordeal from start to finish but glad it is sorted out now as there has been so much phone calls and paperwork to sort this out! FINALLY he can get his bliidy wages
