account suddenly closed by nationwide!

Options
hi my son previously applied for a natwest account. they then wrote to him to say they were closing it and would not enter into discussion about it etc etc... i took it up with the FOS who said they could not do anything basically.

he then applied for a nationwide current account as he needed it to get his wages paid into. he already held a savings account with nationwide, took all his ID etc, pay details in and deposited £100. he has now, just 2 weeks later recieved a similar letter from NAtionwide telling him they are closing his account in 14 days and they will not enter into any discussion.

we are really confused about this - they advised him on which current account to open, saw his ID etc so he cant have done anything wrong. he is only 18 so hasnt had any credit cards or anythng like that against him

i dont understand!!!

does anyone know why this has happened twice in a row? i will get a copy of his credit report but dont expect to find anything on it as he has never had any credit

How old is your son, I wouldn't think it was anything to do with your situation. Bizare how long did it take for Natwest to close it.

Check with experian and equifax, you may need to file a 'notice of disassociation' if you've become financially linked somehow. Check your reports.

'I do my job, do you do yours?'

  • i will do, do you think he should apply for a post office account or something in the meantime, his boss is waiting to pay his wages into an account but we dont b*****y have one now!

what was the whole process with natwest did sumething happen there?
  • with natwest, he opened the account and paid some money in then one day got a call from them asking about 'an odd transaction of around £600' and asking him to verify if he paid it in, he said he hadn't but it was possible i had paid it in and that he would check with me. in the meantime i tried to ring them to discuss (they would not deal with me, only him) so i had a day off work where we were both in the house and could do it together, but by then a letter had come informing him the account was to be closed. we rang them and they said they were unable to discuss the matter due to 'security' and that we could take it up with the FOS, which we did but they said they could only deal with bank errors and returned all the paperwork i sent them. i looked through all his statements and there was no ign of this £600 transaction. This was when we were trying to open an accout for him to have his EMA money paid into (as they would not pay it into my account).

we then opened the nationwide account and exactly the same thing has happened with this one (which we need for his wages to bepaid into!)

it is extremly strange, my brother used to pay the rent out of his account every month for 2 years by SO and my mum or me used to go into the branch and pay in £440 every month for the rent cash. They never once complained that someone else other than my brother paid in cash.
It seems unlikely that something is on hes credit file (i maybe wrong) because they check your file before they open an account anyway.
Was it a basic account at Nationwide or there flexaccount?
But as the post send before it would be worthwhile checking both yours and hes credit files.
  • it was the flex account - i know the £600 was definetly not me or him  but they also said he could not open any account within natwest and bank of scotland group either

who do you bank with? Could he go to your bank? Or even have his wages paid in there until this is sorted?
  • i thought he could apply for a post office account whilst we try to get to the bottom of all this, its such a nuisance!
