I'm beginning to thing that the original modem they supplied has a firewall / NAT, and you need to disable this or put it in bridge mode. Is there a "bridge mode" option in the original modem's settings?

Your IP address for the wireless connection should have been issued by the wireless router I.E should have been in the range 192.168.0.x not 192.168.1.x like it was.

    I'm confused!

    You are!!!!! :rotfl:

See, thats what I don't get?

How do I get into original modem settings? I'm really beginning to loose patience now! :o

I've got stick it's all over the place with IP addresses, VPI no.s VCI nos, Protocol settings etc on!!!! :rotfl:

Don't know if any help but I did command prompt >ipconfig when all set up before and it gave me....

ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 4
    Connection specific DNS suffix: (blank)
    IP address: 192.168.1.4
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

    Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection
    Media state: Media disconnected

    Ethernet adapter Wireless internet connection
    Connection specific DNS suffix:
    IP address: 192.168.1.5
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

It'll be something simple, like making your connection for "All Users"

Mind you, I'm probably talking through my bum.

Well if you are at least we are singing from the same song sheet! :rotfl:

Connection is set to all users if I remember correctly?

    :j :j :j :j :j :j

Guess what I have done!!!!!! :D

So bloody chuffed with myself (I'm very easily pleased these days! )

I was determined to do it and the clue was in my own first post! :o
Sister was given the router, so presuming as second hand it was previously used and set up to god knows what network. Anyway as everything was set up correctly, all lights as should be, cables, excellent strength to laptop etc, it just seemed like the router and modem weren't getting on at all!

Disconnected everything, switched off modem for 5mins so it got new IP address and master reset the router. Reconnected cables, switched on modem, router and rebooted lappy, went through configurations and WAHAY!!!!!!!!!!! :j :j :j

I'm now communicating wirelessly and feeling very silly for not thinking of it hours ago! :D

Now why didn't none of you think of that!!!!! :p;) :rotfl:

Thanks for all your help earlier though guys, at least I learnt a few things!

I like TalkTalk, especially the 01,02 and 03 number I can call for 70 mins at a time for free. :Dand how I can call TalkTalk on their helpline 24 hours a day at no cost. :rotfl:

I was so stressed before that that went right over my head!!! :o :rotfl:

In my defence she did say she called and got no help 'cos it wasn't their router? Although with hindsight I doubt she did, 'cos whoever she spoke to would have told her to put laptop back in the box and send it back to Toshiba!!!!! :rotfl:
