help (orange) how do i cancel my contract

Options
im on a contract with orange and on my letter it said that it was an 18 months contract so yes i signed the letter...now that the 12 months are over ...i got an update...im having to pay a lot of monthly rental and my the free minutes i receive arent even useful because they're only to use after 8 which is a rip-off..i called up orange and i said i wanted to cancel the whole contract...i made up any kind of excuse like im going away from uk or something..but they still said they would be taking money out of my debit card as i have already signed the contract ..they cant do anything about it ..and now i desprately wanna cancel this contract and get a decent one from another network but whatever excuse i make up...they dont accept it

so how can i cancel my contract...because when i signed the papers..i didnt know what the cost of the line rental after 12 months was gonna be..and they didnt want to tell me either

With it being an 18 months contract, you cannot give the 30-day notice to cancel until 17 months have elapsed.

The best that you can do now is to downgrade your price plan to one with a lower line rental - I would recommend the OVP Voda Anytime 30 at £15 per month which is the cheapest available. This is an Orange Value Promise tariff which is equivalent to the Vodafone Anytime 30, giving 30 minutes of cross-network calls per month at anytime.

As you are now over 6 months from the start of your contract, they should let you do so without any problem from the start of the next billing date. Make sure you tell them to cancel the itemised billing as Vodafone imposes a charge for itemised billing on this tariff. They may say that Orange does not charge for itemised billing but just tell them that you do not want it. You are still able to view the itemised calls on line. Once you are on this tariff, just bear in mind that calling 150 is going to use up your inclusive minutes.

    Hope this is helpful.
  • As AP has already said, your best bet is to downgrade your tariff...

I may be wrong be from what I understand you are unfortunately bound to your 18 month contract and should you choose to end the contract early would have to pay off the remaining 'x' number of months line rental.

I know it's a very frustrating situation and i don't know the tone of the phonecalls but obviously i would recommend playing the sympathy card as much as possible, try not to lose your temper or make any arsey comments (as tempting as it may be!) i've found that people who are feeling sorry for you will genuinely try and help you as best they can.

Is there anything in your original contract to say about the price increase or anything to indicate that you got 12 months 1/2 price? if they have unfairly bumped up your line rental without notifing you that may be grounds for cancellation if so contact trading standards, but if there is something about 12 months 1/2 price then i think your stuck with it and best option is drop to lowest available tariff and let it run the 6 months of pay it off.

All you can do is call them up, transfer to the lowest tarrif and pay them the line rental for the last 6 months. They give you the option to do this all in 1. going to do it once i see another deal with decent mins/texts and cashback i like the look of three's online 1400 tarrif but currently no offers...
