Options
I was after phone insurance for my mobile (just in case it gets nicked or lost) and wanted some recommendations on cheap decent providers and some recommendations.

is it not covered on your contents insurance ??

I know the insurance companies will only pay out if the phone is stolen, if it's lost it's your fault !!

Cheers, I'll check that, wanted to be covered incase I lost it too, I was covered through my Lloyds account but in the process of switching to A&L. Maybe I should forget it and just learn to be more careful!

I got a home insurance quote today (Lloyds TSB) - the cover included my mobile phone, lost or stolen - but not calls made from it - just the handset.

    Fairly happy with that!

What's the excess on the policy?

If you claimed for a mobile they'd bump the premium up in the following year.

If you wanted to go elsewhere for your insurance in the following year then you would have to declare the claim for the mobile. That'd bump the premium up - probably.

    The excess is £50.

Yes, sure making claims bumps up premiums and that cannot be avoided, unless you are less than honest!

There is no 12 month minimum term like other policies, prices are low and they protect against all possabilities.

The best bit is if you do not claim...

After 12 months you will receive a free battery worth up to £82.
After 24 months you will receive a free upgrade to the latest handset

    I'm happy so far!!!

The insurance is pretty poor and not much is covered. The upgrade you mention is not at all attractive. You have to sign a fresh 12 month agreement, no doubt on an unfavourable tariff, and you even have to take out further insurance, whether you want to or not. Bear in mind that at this point you would have already shelled out for 24 months worth of insurance. Not to mention that the original handset has to be returned. It mentions a replacement battery after 12 months, worth up to £82 - seems like an expensive battery to me.

It's one of the poorest offers I've seen.

    "FREE UPGRADE
After 24months no claims you can claims a free upgrade. This will be to the value of your initial investment, subject to signing a 12 mth agreement with a network and Mobile Phone Supercover Ltd and the return of your original working handset."
