x box or ps3

Which one is the better game console in your opinion? I am looking to buy one for OH. He is really into Gran Turismo and games of that ilk and cannot find anything he like on the wii.

I could get a 360 for alot less so I am wondering what the difference is. Are you just paying for the blue ray player on the ps3.

Many thanks in advance.

The PS3 is also a fantastic piece of HIFI (Unlike the XBOX). Meaning it can play dvds and blu rays very well indeed, as well as upscaling AVI files and you can even surf the net.
the XBOX is cheaper but very good for games.
    Petes obviously an XBOX fanboy.
As it stands, if you put 2 games together, one on the xbox and one on the PS3, the xbox tends to beat it (Slightly) for quality. But as the programers get to grips with the PS3s architecture it will more than likely beat the XBOX in time to come

The xbox has a lot more choice of games at the moment (But then it has been out longer)
The downside I see to XBOX is they only ever seem to make decent 1st person shooters for it (Gears of war for example) and not much else. Whilst the PS3 tends to be a touch more productive (Little Big Planet for example)

You can only get Gran Turismo on the PS3 though and it even has a free demo downloadable via the sony site (Through the PS3)

Because he has one... You'll get a real mix of answers for this one and a lot of them will be like Pete.g's. I find these types of answers only tell you one thing, and that's that they have the console they're raving about and don't have the one they're rubbishing.

So with that said, I'll let you know that I have a PS3, and to be honest the only reason I got one is because I used to work for Sony and got it cheap.

In terms of racing games I think there's good games on each console. I used to have the original xbox and loved Project Gotham Racing 2 and it was the only game I really missed when I sold it. That was until I found Race Driver GRID for the PS3, very similar and great fun.

Like one of the previous posters said, the PS3 is gunning for being more than just a games console with the Blu Ray player and wireless media streaming and other such things so it's really down to what your OH is going to want to do with it. The major attraction of the xbox360 is the price. A lot lot cheaper than the PS3. I also think the online gaming is a lot better on the xbox.

Gaming capability is reasonably equal, its the other components that seal the deal. For looks, functionality, longevity and build quality, I'd say the PS3 is the better console.

ultimately it depends on which consoles exclusives you prefer. although i would say that the ps3 isnt worth the extra cash and i would go for the xbox 360. if you can afford it just get both.
  • The secondhand market for the xbox 360 is massive and you can get an enormous amount of good games for less than £15.

The xbox 360 represents better value and the Live service is far superior to the Playstation offering.

yes it is better, but i do think that PSN is slowly catching up with XBL

the only bad think about xbox live is that you have to pay, whereas the PSN is free

I have both. There's nothing in it. Xbox is better for games, PS3 for multimedia playback. Most games are released on both virtually being like for like. Xbox has some good exclusives (gears of war) and so does the PS3 (Motorstorm).

XBox Live is worth paying 50p a week for as it is far better than the PS3 online experience and is going to be even better come Wednesday when there's a massive update.

Currently if you want to play HD video content, the PS3 is the one to have with good upscaling of SD content and the built in Blu-Ray drive.

So now we come to the choice. If he is really into Gran Turismo, the PS3 as it's not on the Xbox. If not having that game isn't a deal breaker and you're happy without being able to play Blu-Ray films, the Xbox 360. There's rumours of a Blu-Ray drive for the Xbox sometime in the future which should be around £100.

    I have a 360 and a Wii.

The 360 is very good, although I have been a little disappointed by it.

In terms of games, it's great, no complaints at all.

As a media device, it's not great though. I run Linux in the flat, so the 360 doesn't play well with it. Still I have an Xbox with XBMC, although I was hoping to get rid of it and the 360 be its new replacement, but it hasn't happened.

For a pure gaming, you can't go wrong with the 360. Cheap and plenty of good games.

I went through a period of not using it, so recently bought GTA4 (reduced) to play. By which time Fable 2 and Gears 2 should be reduced.
