Making recordings of radio programmes

Options
Can you get software to archive to your PC etc. any 'listen again' recordings of programmes from BBC? By extension, can any other online services that you can play with a suitable multimedia player also be saved direct to disc and listened to offline rather than online always? How does the abiltiy to save to disc depend on the file formats? [in the case of the BBC, their programmes are only available one edition at a time in general. Thus if you want to develop a general archive of a program is this either possible technically, or permitted legally?]

[It is, of course, possible to record the 'live' audio directly, since the signal going to your speakers could just as well be plugged into the 'mic' on a cassette recorder, but that is not exactly what I am asking about]

Thanks

  • Try Total Recorder for about £6 from http://www.highcriteria.com/
It works a treat. I think it records as a 'wav file but you can download Dbpower AMP Music converter to convert to mpeg or other format.

What a load of rubbish. Youve been able to record radio programmes for years with cassette players. I dont believe you if you say youve never done it.

I had a look at Streambox's website and was confused - do I really need Streambox to get those BBC Radio Listen Again programs downloaded onto MP3 format? Or can I manage with just Net Transport? It'd be nice if mulldoonuk could give us the recipe for how to use his scheme - I'm looking for a simple procedure if possible of getting Listen Agains onto my mp3 player quickly.
