Xbox 360 anyone advise please

My 7 yr old has an old xbox and quite a few games (some kind friend donated it). He has been after a 360 for a couple of years but budgets havent ran to it. this year we have planned a bit and got g-parents/aunties etc etc to chip in and so he will hopefully get one. My questions are
Are all the old games backward compatible with the new one, and does he really need big HD, he won't be live gaming etc, the memory on his old one has been fine. Problem is that bigger hd will go way over budget.
Thanks

  • Hey
Me and my OH run our own computer game store so I thought i`d help you with your questions.
1; Not all the old xbox games are compatatible with the xbox360 although a few are, in general if there is a newer version of the game on 360 then the old one wont work. But always give them a try just in case.

2; He shouldn`t need a big HD, he can always delete some things from the memory if he is out of room. Its no different to deleting items from a memory card.

Keep your eyes open in stores that sell second hand games at low prices, many retailers now how very reasonable prices on some 360 titles.

the 20gb is no longer available to buy new i believe. it has been replaced by the 60gb. i wouldnt go for second hand consoles because someone unscrupulous might sell you one that is prone to the ring of death. the 60gb is only about 30 or 40 pounds more than the arcade version which does not have any hd. if you shop around you will find shops that include 2 or 3 free games.

If you buy an arcade, you can use Microsoft's Xbox Memory upgrade program to get a 20Gb Hard Disk (refurbished) for £20

    More info here: http://www.xboxstorageupgrade.com

and in the posts on this page here: http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/276117/xbox-arcade-with-fable-ii-legio-ind

Last link contains a very good deal at the moment, however excercise caution, a lot of people have gone for it, and there are fears it might not be honoured... do your research first.

Sorry, I should have clarified... this is a good option if you are buying an arcade from elsewhere (like the deal posted on HUKD) - where the arcade is a lot less than the 60Gb option.

The refurbed harddrive is from MS and is factory tested, and comes with at least some kind of warranty. Sure it's not ideal, but in some instances, it can prove a cheap option to getting some bulk storage when you might otherwise have not considered it.

    Thanks

theres a list and ill post it for you, as you see frm the list/s not ALL xbox games will be playable on the xbox 360 but the ones which wont play you could trade them in at a game or gamestation against a 360 console, if he isnt doing any xbox LIVE then the arcade is sufficient as it has a memory card (nor sure how big it is)

    list 1

    or

    list 2

list 2 is from xbox.com so it might be more upto date

bear in mind that you will still have the original xbox so can keep playing them, if I recall the emulation software to play original games needs several gigs of space so you would need a harddisk rather than the arcade version.
