This will be fine with laptop, but you need a power supply.
i've done ALOT of research before purchasing my new external hdd. I've looked at it ALL.... ended up buying the Seagate External 250 gb 7200 rpm HDD from Maplin for £89. Seagate has the best overall ranking over western digital, maxtor etc. So far so good, very quiet, very fast.
I would avoid maxtor and IBM deskstars at all costs. They are known to die on the day before tomorrow!
The toshiba is very similar to the western digital design, and I think the HDD is a WD, not sure if Toshiba makes their own HDD. Anyway the only reason I avoided this is because a few people have found the HDD to die. But for the price, it looks like a pretty good deal.0 -

seems a good buy.
Anyone know if this is any good??0 -
No experience with toshiba external hard drives but looks reasonable enough.
(You go through https://www.quidco.com for 5% off )Why do companies offer you "free gifts?"
Since when has a gift NOT been free?0 -

The current Hitachi Deskstars are fantastic drives and very reliable. They are amongst the fastest and quietest. There was an old IBM deskstar but was a very old model that had a bad reputation. I have some previous generation drives and they too were highly rated. (Storagereview.com).
I broke the mold and plumped for a seagate 250gb internal sata drive myself, but since found out it is a mediocre performer at best.
I guess you can find reviews that say just what you want to hear and forget the rest.
