Nom!
That's very kind of you. And in fact I think I know the person who actually made that cupcake - she's called Kylie Lambert and lives in Australia. Small world!0 -

I think you're doing amazing, you sound like you've a lovely family, are keeping it together financially, all that and you're still doing a bit for children in need.

Sorry, just a minor hijack here....
Do you make that kind of cupcake? The pretty, fancy kind? If so, do you do wedding cake ones?

Hello! Only just seen these questions and the answer is yes. If you're interested I'll pm you with my website. I've only done one wedding so far but it went very well, espeically considering I was transporting 100 cupcakes to Glasgow from London on the train! LOL.0

Don't feel bad about not having savings! I'm sure there's lots of people like that - I know I am. Only in the last 2 months have I managed to put some monies into an ISA and I now have a balance of.................................................*insert drumroll"............................£37!!!! Ha ha!!! I'm due to get a £52 payment for some assessing I did recently too so I'll put that in there to make a whole £89!! Car is due it's MOT, tax and service in January 09 so I'm trying to save enough that i don't have to worry about that. By February the ISA will be back down to £0. So, don't feel bad about not having savings - you're not the only one - and I don't have a baby to look after (unless you include myself).
I know theory says we should put everything towards tackling debts and the like, but I like the feeling of having a small amount put aside - even £100 which is a small buffer for the unexpected or anything. Ultimately I'd like to be in a position to have a few hundred set aside for car repairs / new PC (mine is terminally ill) / small weekend break................but it never actually seems to work out like that as any savings get quickly eaten up by unexpected bills.
Darn the unexpected!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
sarah i read your post and i know how you feel . i think it's very hard to feel like a success these days because there is so much pressure on us to have a perfect life - family, home, car, successful career - all of this while looking gorgeous, not getting stressed and still finding time for ourselves. I think a lot of the pressure comes from ourselves too - but I think you're doing really well considering the circumstances. You have a husband and a healthy child, your own home, successful career and your own businesses. You're even paying off your debts. So the only thing you need to work on is your savings - and you'll be able to do this once you have your debts paid off. To me it makes sense to get your debts paid first because you pay out more interest on them than you'll earn in savings. Have you thought about saving your child benefit into a children's savings account - it's only a small amount each week but if you get it paid it automatically to the account then you never need to worry about it. And it can stay there til your child finishes school and you'll have money towards university fees/career training.
And congratulations on your new arrival and getting through a difficult time!"I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better." Paul Theroux0 -
Sarah,
Just wanted to say that it seems like you are doing brilliantly. We are in the same situation, we work hard but things never seem easy. My first son was also born early and I found it a struggle. Luckily I didnt have to go back to work then, but things would be definatly more difficult now. I am currently on maternity leave after having our third baby.
As some of the other people said, you have a lovely family, and money cant buy happiness. But you have dealt with your debts and thats the main thing.
Good luck to you and your family.Moving on up

Thanks Frasersmum. I'm feeling a bit better today about it all. It just seems such a long road to being more financially secure, but you're right, we are dealing with our debts, and that's the main thing.0
