Just got my post, did I get my cheque back from YBS........nope.
BUT!!
They sent me the same welcome letter they sent for my E-BOND on 28th October, which they claim they withdrew on the 31st, it is even dated 12th November 2008 same account number and everything!! It even states again that I have 42 days..to pay my cheque in..........these guys really are muppets!!
What a joke:T0 -
Well I received from the Yorkshire Building Society.
It says:
DATED 12TH NOVEMBER 2008
We're delighted you have chosen to open the YORKSHIRE E BOND 14 MONTH 31/01/2010 account with us. We will be doing all we can to show that you have made the right choice. As a reminder the terms of your account can be found on our website.
If you have not already arranged to make your initial deposit you can either log in and use your debit card etc etc etc.
Anyway I phoned them and told them I had just received this letter and the said "sorry this was sent out in error, the offer ended 31st October."
I said that I thought this was unprofessional and put the phone down.0 -
Ditto! Just received my "welcome letter" datd 12th November too
Girl on phone tried to sell me the lesser 5.5% bond so I told her no thanks, I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than ever trust them with my money again “You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
i don't have a ybs ebond, but do have other accounts with them, been very happy,
but this does indeed appear to me to be shoddy treatment from ybs, they really should have honoured the outstanding applications.
reading between the lines it looks like they were in a huge hurry to close the ebond and bring out another at lower rates!
i certainly won't be rushing to sign up if they treat people like this..0 -

I received a welcome letter also today for their closed bond. How very ineficient YBS are. And irritating.
YBS are seeking Member Feedback on 0800 0565 252. Apparently they will be "delighted to hear from you about any of our products and services" (but not until monday when the office opens again).
YBS didn't waste any time in bringing out their 'new' fixed rate bond at 5.5% did they!? I know it's business but as far as I'm concerned they suck.0 -

Never had a problem with YBS until I applied for this account. Posted cheque on Friday 31st October 1st class, so they would receive Saturday 1st November and processes Monday 3rd November. On 3rd received an e-mail dated 5:08 pm to say the bond was fully subscibed on friday 31st. Not sure what my position would be so rang them on the 4th and was advised that my application would not be processed as bond was closed. Just as a safety precaution placed a stop on the cheque and opened another accont with fund which doesn't pay monthly interest as expected interst rate reduction. Then get a letter from YBS advising that cheque had been stopped-i.e they had presented for an account that they had said they would not be placing my deposit in ,so don't know what they intended to do with my money! Not had time to ring them but hen get the letter today saying I have 42days in which to make my e-bond deposit. As other posters advised that they have sent this letter out in error, have asked for a supervisor to ring me back as very unproffesional to cash a cheque for an account that is not being opened. Will see what they have to say, very poor customer service.0

I'd been happy with YBS until earlier this year when I decided to moved my 2 ISAS to them. Abbey messed things up so it seemed. I was phoning Abbey, phoning YBS when all that was needed was for them to talk to each other. But seems that isn't allowed!
Some time during this process when I was trying to ascertain if the ISA had been transferred, as I couldn't see it online, the operator actually asked me for my password in full so she could see! Naturally I didn't give it and immediately raised a security issue with them. They appeared to take it very seriously but I never did get a response about it. I also made a complaint about the delay in transferring, which many weeks later they answered, but failed to address the delay between the issue of the abbey money and crediting the new ISA with anythng other than postal delays. But I did get a £10 cheque to conpensate for the money I spend on the phone!0 -
just gets worse and worse.0

I opened the e-bond on line and funded it using debit card. No problems at all one of the easiest accounts I have ever opened.
