Oh well thats that then.... I was going to try and get the sound driver for you
you could try in device manager and see what sound drivres are used.
Go back to
Right click My Computer, Properties, Hardware Tab, Device Manager
and see if there are any Yellow or Red Exclamation ,marks nr sound and audio devices0 -
Download CPU-Z from http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
It is the link below the Home , Latest version ,top left of the page.
Unzip the file and run it. In the mainboard section it will list the motherboard manufacture, the model number etc.

I don't know what happened to Kimberley's last post but I got the distinct impression of a VIA 8367-8235 based motherboard. The 8235 is a southbridge that contains an audio controller but also many other controller features such as hard disk, usb. The device will not produce sound if the seperate audio codec chip is disabled (see my bios post) or not present on the board.

I don't get what you meanI know that i used to get sound when the speakers were plugged into my monitor
When i tried just now, i got a buzzing noise, so i'm not sure if it's the speakers themselves. Maybe if i buy new ones then i can see whether or not it's the speakers or computer

This is looking a bit complex to me. If the speakers make a buzzing sound it suggests the speakers are knackered, especially if you've tried it in another product - possibly not being powered properly. If you have headphones and a headphone socket on the PC see if that works. It's not worth getting so techie if the speakers aren't working. I might want to try them with another piece of equipment just to make sure - either something with a small line out socket or something small like a personal CD using he headphone socket.0

Just a quick question, are you plugging the speakers into the correct socket?BR 4/10/07
