I wouldn't give any bones to a dog to be honest, some splinter. It's up to you he's your dog, maybe you could ask your vet if it's ok.

I was under the impression if it was raw yes if it was cooked no. Although that might just be in the case of chicken bones? Maybe someone tho knows a bit more can help?
  • No cooked bones for dogs. Raw bones are fine.
  • Raw bones great. Cooked bones can be a disaster as noted by others above. This is a slight generalisation as I have had a number of cases where raw chop bones have been stuck within the oesophagus after being stolen and eaten by the dog.

  • Any knuckle type bones, i.e. smooth edged ones are smashing for teeth cleaning and all round general snack purposes.
You can also feed whole chicken wings if you like. Sharp bones, such as the chop bones simon mentioned, I feel, should be avoided if possible.

I think it's just a case of using common sense :)
  • not lamb chop bones my step sisters nan gave her westie a lamb chop bone it splintered in its stomach and it bled to death by the time she noticed and got it into the car :(

I think its big, uncooked bones isn't it.

My dog had a pigs trotter the other day and absolutely loved it.

PS: totally unrelated I know but is it OK to feed cats chicken wings? The butcher sells them for 10p a time and I am thinking it would be nice as a treat for them every now and again.
  • You can't give chicken bones to cats, but you can give whole chicken wings to dogs. There's nothing to stop you stripping the skin and meat off though and giving them that.

Lamb knuckle bones can be given to dogs uncooked, cats uncooked but also cats cooked! Confused much?
