new house - wireless broadband/phone - 6 months

Hi all,
apologies if this has been answered before, I'm struggling to see the wood for the trees on the forum...
New house, no land line at all. Would like to get broadband for internet connection and telephone. But I'm only at the house for 6 months. What do I do? Is wireless any good?
Not tech minded at all, so plain english works best for me! And am on a mac at work and will be at home.
