Thanks guys, the size for the Lg for example are 37" but then the dimensions show
37in (93cm) widescreen TV with 93cm visible screen size.
so surely with the black edge it is bigger than 37"? and doesn't say anymore

My LG has about an inch and a half of plastic on each side of the screen.

i think from your current tv you can make a close enough assumption to how thick the edges are around the screen. there isnt really a big variation between tvs to cause any issues. remember the speakers are usually always underneath the screen instead of at the sides like they always used to be. so that saves space.
  • My wife's dad has a 32inch CRT telly with the speakers at the side and I have 37inch Plasma. Physically my plasma is the same width as his CRT telly, obviously it's higher but the plasma would fit on the same cabinet. I couldn't sell him it thou he wasn't buying :o
Nothing to see here, move along.
  • Screen size is measured corner to corner and the actual dimensions of the telly are listed on the spec sheets. As a matter of interest,Toshiba do models with ultra slm bezels(the bits at the side) and one of their 40" tv's is the same size or smaller than other manufacturers 37" tv's.I was thinking of getting a 37" 'til i saw the Toshiba's and may now go to a 40".

Ive heard of problems with Toshibas (And sharps) screens after a period of running in (Approx 1 year)

Im not saying theyre ALL like that, but it is a known problem

  • Thanks for that.I'm in a bit of a quandary at the mo as to what to buy.Had several Toshiba tv's over the years and they have all been reliable.About to get my first LCD (or plasma maybe) but the choice is overwhelming. The Panasonics seem to be getting the thumbs up on here so will look at them.
