32" or 37" lcd ..much difference?

Was set on a 32" then dh said to go bigger, as it is in the corner should be ok, we have made a template of the huge shelf to go under it and looks ok so was wondering wether the size is worth the extra money..also what is the actual size of the tv not the screen, is it actually 32 or 37" or bigger due to the outside as doesn't say on most iv'e looked at..
Thanks

There is no set rule on whether bigger is better!

It depends on the size and layout of your room and your own personal taste. Some people simply buy the biggest that they can get, possibly as a status symbol... My preference is for something that doesn't dominate the room, but that's just a personal thing.

From an ergonomic point of view, the guidelines are that for casual viewing you should be able to sit between 3 and 6 times the screen width away from the TV, while for cinema-style viewing on a widescreen set you can go down to twice the screen width away - possibly slightly closer if you have HD.

If you want to know the external dimensions of a given make and model, look up the specs on the maker's website.

You can sit closer while watching HD than SD but like fwor I prefer a screen that doesn't dominate the room. This rticle suggests viewing distances for differrent sized screens.

When watching SD (standard definition) freeview, youll probably find a 32" better as it wont show up all the 'artifacts' inherant with it

But for all other viewing, a decent 37" will be head and shoulders above a 32" as youll see all the extra 'detail' within the picture

For 37" I highly recommend a Panasonic Plasma

I second the comment about watching "normal" telly. It looks noticably worse on a larger one.

Thought i'd just add that boffer.co.uk sell off starts sunday evening, in the last sell off they had 40' branded LCD TV's for £399 and 32' for £299, so you might want to have a look and see if they have any bargain TV's.

They did also have some 37' but i cant remember the price.

No need to buy TV's from a company like " boffer ", decent companies like Novatech and eBuyer sell 32" LCD TV's for £299.00 or less.

in the full spec details on shopping sites they often give the dimensions. even if they dont if you see a tv you like the brands official site is sure to have the dimensions in the spec. what we did was get a tape measure out to get a rough idea. you may be surprised how big a tv you can fit in the space, we were. we thought we would never be able to get anything above 32 inch, we now have a 40 inch.

Thanks guys, the size for the Lg for example are 37" but then the dimensions show
37in (93cm) widescreen TV with 93cm visible screen size.
so surely with the black edge it is bigger than 37"? and doesn't say anymore

We've got a 32 inch CRT, got it off Freecycle and it's great.
My uncle bought a bigger telly, a 40 inch one which they do like, but when it's switched off it's like a big black 'thing' in the corner.
