Cost of Postage to Australia??

I am selling a original speedway helmet on ebay (won't put a link as I am sure its against the rules).

But anyway, I have interest from someone that wants it delivered to Australia. I have checked him out and he is legitimate with good, 100% feedback - seems he is just a speedway enthusiast. He has bought many other speedway items.

My problem is that I am having trouble getting a quote for postage. Can't seem to be done through royalmail and parcel force website keeps saying that the dimensions inputted should make it weight 1.3kg!?

Does anyone have any idea of the cost of posting a 650g parcel to Australia?
Dimension: approx. 25x25x25cm.

Any help much appriciated. ;)

I took mine to the post office and got an accurate price. It saved all the mucking about on-line.

That will be the 'volumetric weight' a system of measurement peculiar to airfreight.

I would imagine unless you require a high insurance level Royal Mail will be the cheapest, though unfortunately they do not provide a fully tracked service to Australia.

I have just got back from the post office - took it down all packaged up to get a quote.

    £11.28 - Is that right????

Seems a lot less than expected. Has anyone else had experience sending to Austrailia?
    Exact dimensions are 30cm x 15cm x 20cm and it weighs 1kg

    Many Thanks

£11.28 is right yes. I usually send Insured 2kg packages for £25. I would send it insured as well which costs around £5.50 on top of the usual Airmail price if it exceeds £36. More for piece of mind. The buyer will will know how much to expect to pay for postage being in Oz I am sure. Make sure you are covered with Insurance if it sells for more than £36.

Thanks - sorry didnt get round to looking at that site. Stupid 'surf control' thing at work wouldn't let me access it.

Thats what made me suspicious that my quote was wrong - he was willing to pay £50+. I think he is just a collector that is desparate to get his hands on it.

It is currently sitting at £15 with a few watchers. Hopefully it will get a few more bids soon.
4 days to go - fingers crossed.;)
  • Remember, he could also be an ex-pat who has meny happy memories of Speedway, that is why he is happy to pay. :)

Be nice if all buyers had that sort if grasp on postage costs.
  • Stupid Ebay!!!

It won't let me send him a message to tell him that I have a full quote for postage:

    "Attention!

We have determined you are trying to contact an eBay member with whom you are not currently involved in an open transaction. For the protection of the eBay community, we sometimes block these types of communication. To prevent this occurrence from happening in the future, we recommend the following:

If you are a seller, respond to all bidder questions before the auction ends.

If you are trying to contact the seller of an item that has not yet ended go to the item page and click the “Ask seller a question” link.

If you are the winning buyer of an item go to your My eBay page under the items I’ve Won section. Click the action drop down menu and choose the “contact seller” action.

If you are a seller trying to contact your winning buyer, go to My eBay and under the Items I’ve Sold section, click the action drop down menu. Choose the “contact buyer” action.

Reply to seller/bidder through personal email provider (if the sender has not hidden their email address).
    Thank you for your understanding."

He is bidding on my item!! Surely that classes as 'an eBay member with whom you are not currently involved with'
