It's an issue because I believe they have no obligations or responsibilities to a buyer under Jersey law to do anything in the event that goods are faulty. You will still have any manufacturer's warranty, typically one year however after that you're relying on goodwill. Contrast that with the UK where you are protected for up to 6 years. It may not be an issue if you use play for buying DVD's but if you buy some more expensive electrical products from them then it's definitely something you should be taking into consideration.

but then if people do theyre research properly then they will realise play are based in jersey and the uk law doesnt apply to them and as such you will have a hrd time trying to get them to budge

Print out a listing of the product and see if any of your local High Street retailers will price match. Failing that voice your concerns with the customer support department of the manufacturer of the product

The OP's post is aimed at people who are considering buying from Play but fail to realise it's Jersey based and that UK law doesn't apply, these people exist (there's one on this thread)
If you were one of these people and wrongly believed that either Jersey was part of the UK, or that their was adequate, similar law to the Sale of Goods act in Jersey then you'd perhaps have little interest in price matches as there'd be no obvious advantage to you (being unaware of the legal situation).

As for customer support, they'd likely offer a repair of an item at the buyer's cost which is better than the nothing they're entitled to from Play under Jersey law but worse than someone buying from a UK retailer and being in the same position but with the added protection of the SOGA. I don't see anything wrong with someone drawing attention to this.

If you are in an informed position then what you're saying is exactly the same as me, take into consideration the limited protection you get from Play and if it's a big enough issue to you, go elsewhere.

Well it's not been an issue for me as i've been aware that Play are Jersey based, and that Jersey law is limited. I personally would always research a company and read their terms and conditions before buying, but many don't. I'm not going to criticise the OP for spelling it out clearer to people who wouldn't look very for or who don't currently know about Play. If people don't do their research we can say "more fool them" but there's nothing wrong with someone attempting to help these people out and allow them to make a better informed decision than they otherwise would have.

If you buy with a credit card then it doesn't matter if Play are in the UK or not because the credit card company will be subject to the Sale of Goods Act. So you pursue any faults through them if Play aren't cooperative. :)
