Is one allowed to have several current accounts.
I have HSBC graduate account, but am thinking of getting a Barclay's current account as backup?

Yup, I have three - Nationwide, Lloyds and Barclays
Just check that none of them will penalise you for leaving it sitting doing nothing though. I'm sure I've heard that this happened to someone previously.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
I have Hsbc LLoyds and Natwest all current accounts
Never had a issue with having three I have over £500 each a LLoyds and Natwest and all main banking done with HSBC0 -

This week I opened a Premier Direct account with A&L this pays 8.50% on balances up to £2500. At the same time I closed the two current accounts I had with them.
This brings the number of current accounts I have down from eleven to ten.
Abbey
A&L
Barclays
Coventry BS
Halifax
HSBC
Lloyds
Nationwide
Norwich & Peterborough BS
RBS
Two of them have been opened and operated entirely online.
The other eight are in my High Street.Old Saying Once bitten twice shy

I thought with A&L that to get the new customer deals you had to close your accounts, wait three months and then re-apply.0

I have one with RBS, one with BOS and 2 with Barclays (one savings and one current account)0

I thought with A&L that to get the new customer deals you had to close your accounts, wait three months and then re-apply.I've just received 5 days interest at 8.50% on £1500 (from 14/11 to 18/11) on the new Premier Direct Account I opened with A&L even though I still hold a current account.
So the 3 month rule does not apply at the moment.
Read the T&Cs carefully. If you have had an overdraft at 0% and used it then the 3 month rule applies for overdrafts only.
Not for positive balances which I will keep topped up at the £2500 mark. The maximum allowed to get the 8.50% rate.Old Saying Once bitten twice shy

Yes you can have multiple. I've got NatWest(Student), HBOS (Student), HSBC (Bank Account). I would said that HBOS is one of the best bank, in terms of online features, savings rate and overdraft facility. HSBC doesn't use 100% UK Operators instead of outsourcing them elsewhere, and they keep holding me for 10 minutes when the information is not available from their script. After half an hour, they couldn't find the information and put me through to the British Call Centre. I'm not sure if this is different for HSBC Plus or Premier, as they claimed 24/7 UK Operators.0
