Thanks for all the suggestions and sites, I shall have a good look through them today. My mum has IBS and has been told by her doctor to stay away from gluten, caffeine, pulses and quite a few other things, so it makes things a bit difficult. I would like to find her some nice truffles as she loves those and she likes biscuits and pies, so I'll be on the look out.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650

Hi,
Just wanted to say that oats are not gluten free :-( wish they were. So be careful if doing 'gluten free' it is not the same as wheat free. Gluten can be found in Rye, Spelt, Oats, What and Barley.
coeliac society website has more details. My suggestion is look at everyday chocolates labels you can have after eight mints, twirls, flakes, thorntons do a gluten free box too.julybride

if she has IBS why not go for some things with peppermint in, a recent medical report suggested that peppermint oil was one of the few things that relived symptoms. You could go for peppermint tea (or blend), nice mints in a tin seeds or a freash mint plant...
I agree though, no matter how innocuous the item check the lables - most things say suitable for coeliacs or gluten free on them in the allergy adivce if they are ok.0 -
Thanks again, I checked on the thorntons website and they do some gluten free rum truffles which my mum would love, as she can't have the normal ones anymore.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650

Hi Toonie - thought I'd tell you about the chocolate I eat now, it doesn't have any sugar, no dairy products, no gluten, and no preservatives or nasty chemicals. BUT it does have plenty of goodness, superfoods and tons of taste (even my 16 yr old loves it), so absolutely good for you :j
It's called raw chocolate, and is generally organic, it's slightly more pricier (so something that she may not buy) than normal mass produced stuff, but a more intense flavour and not sugary, so you don't need to scoff so much at once
I can recommend Conscious Chocolate as a good starter chocolate (although I now find that one a bit too sweet for me, never thought I'd say that!), my main supplier of my fix is now K Creations as she is at our local Farmers Market so it works out cheaper, and her chocolate isn't so sweet
There's plenty of others at The Raw Chocolate Shop, Raw Intent (their chocolate spread is divine!), Funky Raw, Raw Chocolate Company, and Pure Flavour that have also got some lovely gluten free cakes on there that I've never tried!!!:eek::eek:
PS Can I have one of your hampers too??Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. My son is gluten free and we have found that the chocolate bourbon biscuits bought in Sainsburys (I think they are Trufree) taste just the same as normal biscuits. My Dad was told off one day for tucking into the wrong ones - as he can have the cheaper 'normal' ones - he hadn't noticed the difference.
