remove files from registry

Options
At the beginning of the month I downloaded a free trial for 21 days programme, intending to install and try later on.Turns out that one of the kids has accidentally installed it without my knowledge thinking it was something else. Now the trial period has expired and I haven't been able to use the programme.I thought I could remove programme and reinstall then be able to try it,but even after reinstalling it just tells me it's expired.A phonecall to a mate later, and he tells me,
"it's in your registry mate, you need to remove it from there"
To be honest, the prospect of this frightens me as I have never attempted it before and I obviously don't want to remove anything that will corrupt my windows. Can anyone give me an idiot proof guide to doing this so I don't screw my computer up.thanks in advance..

My advice. Don't! Out of interest whats the program?

    Regards
  • Be Careful!

If it was so easy to get around the trial period, it'd be pointless, as people would just do that and not pay.

Perhaps you can reinstall it on another system?

Do tell us what it is, a lot of people here could tell you of free/better alternatives!

I'll echo the advice of the last two posts. Be very careful of mucking around in the registry (especially if you're not sure what you are doing). You could end up with headaches, and muck the whole system up if you delete the wrong thing.

  • Get CCleaner free and run it, will do your machine good and clean out old unwanted files - you have an option to make a backup first which I recommend that way if things don't work properly after cleaning you can restore the original files.
First time you use it don't mess with the settings just run it from default.
When you become more confident you can alter settings and use the very powerful uninstall tool that comes with it.

    HERE should find it

    Good Luck

  • It's the very thought of mucking it up that frightens me.The pogramme was from slysoft and among other things it makes your dvd drive multi-region.I can't install on another pc as only one has a dvd drive.
  • Try a system restore, go to a date before the install.
  • Looks like I was typing at the same time as grumpy old git,Thanks for the link,I will save that for future reference.

No need for an idiots guide!

Download RegCleaner and it will job done in minutes!

    Description:
RegCleaner is an easy to use program. With RegCleaner you can easily get rid of those old and obsolete registry entries created by software that you have destroyed ages ago. And by easily, I mean easily. You don´t have to be any expert to use this program.

It even creates backups for you!

I agree with the everyone else, i would not advise doing this as it may cause problems that may need you to reinstall your os..

But if you want to try there's no real easy way unless you no what you are doing, the easiest way to explain........................

To remove an entire "tree" from the registry using REGEDIT and a .REG file, just add a minus sign before the tree name:

    REGEDIT4

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\DummyTree]

will remove the entire tree "DummyTree".

To remove an individual item from the registry, place the minus sign after the equal sign:
    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\DummyTree]
    "ValueToBeRemoved"=-

will remove the individual value "ValueToBeRemoved" from "DummyTree".

    I would advise against this!!!!!
If you think nobody cares about you, try missing a couple of payments.

This won't work, this won't delete the registry key causing the the trial limataion.
