Just to say thanks to everyone who has been 'rooting' for me and the others still waiting.:beer:

TBH I am still feeling a bit odd, I know it's a relief but it has not sunk in yet.:D

This thread has been amazing when we started it on the 13th of Nov I never in my wildest dreams imagined it would run to 3500 posts and 67,000 views but it was only because of all the people who contributed that has made it such a useful thread, it is so good to be able to discuss ones troubles and problems with other people suffering the same, this is one thing where the internet is a wonderful tool, imagine how it would have been without it during this Icesave fiasco.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed.:j

Nice one Will, correct observation just wrong country.

    Near as damnit, culture-wise.
Along with Norway and Sweden, they were supposed to step in with help should Landsbanki not meet its obligations, followed by the Icelandic government not meeting its commitments.
What a joke - but I beleived all that...
Well you do, don't you, when it seems highly improbable that any bank would collapse, and then for the bank and its guaranteeing country both to renege on their moral and legal responsibilities.

Rachel, sorry to hear about your husband needing to use the paper application process.

I think the most likely explanation for the problem is that your joint bank account is linked to your joint icesave account and to your sole icesave account but is not linked to your husband’s sole account. If your husband has ever withdrawn money or interest to your joint bank account from his sole icesave account I am probably wrong.

Unfair certainly. But I can just about see why they might want to do that from a systems/programming point of view.

I think the explanation you were given from the helpline was probably duff info.

I don’t believe there is yet any major evidence that they have made any gross errors in identifying who or who hasn’t got a linked account set up. So I don’t think anybody else who has a linked account set up (and there are no other obvious complications) should worry at this stage. If at all possible I think the FSCS want people to go down the electronic process.

I am not defending the FSCS in any way, just don’t want people worrying at this stage; the FSCS performance and communication has been abysmal. And feel to shoot me down if you disagree on this explanation, I won’t take offence and it may aid clarity.

Just time for this quick post. Good luck all.

    Thanks for your support Tibbledom!
Just got this email from FSCS which doesn't give the same info I was given over the phone yesterday:D. I will just have to fill in the paper form, wait for OH to return from working away and then post it off. I'm sooooo glad that Nilrem has finally received the elusive 2nd email and good luck to everyone else. I am going to try and do some work and then I'm off down the pub for a fag and a pint. Did stop but all this stress is not helping at all, thanks FSCS for demoralising me so much that my willpower does not work anymore.

    Dear Mr

Thank you for your email dated 26 November 2008.

We can confirm that the reference to waiting until the end of the fixed term before receiving the proceeds of your account is not applicable to customers such as yourselves who hold savings accounts and /or ISAs. The option to wait until the end of the fixed term applies only to customers who hold fixed term accounts.

We apologise for any confusion this may have caused.

If there is a linked account to your Icesave account then the reason you will now be in receipt of the paper application form will most likely be because it has been identified that there is a technical issue with your account(s) which will prevent you for from initiating your claim through the electronic payment process.

We aim to complete the compensatioin process so far as possible within 6 weeks of receipt of a completed application form.

If you have any questions or would like help completing the form, please telephone us on 020 7892 7300 and ask for our customer helpline.

    Yours sincerely
